Aunsoft video converter is a nice tool to convert and edit Tivo video files, and it will help you to convert tivo to your desirable video formats, including AVI, WMV, MPEG, FLV, MOV, MKV and some playable video formats.

It is quite wasy to use and has extreme conversion speed.

No video from an Apex digital converter box to TIVO

You may have to set the channel 3/4 switch on the lower right rear of your TiVo to match the output setting of your Apex converter. If your Apex converter is equipped for L/R audio and video output you will get better results using a three-conductor cable to connect to your TiVo.

Well, I think Leawo Video Converter is also a nice tool, I used it for years, it is an all-in-one best video converter for downloading to convert videos among popular formats like AVI, MPEG, WMV, MP4, FLV, RM, MOV, Xvid, 3GP, etc., transform audios between MP3, WMA, WAV, M4A, AAC and AC3 audios, and create fascinating photos from video files.

If a file is a *.bu is it possible to view this file. Or is it possible to convert it to *.avi?

Before we convert BU to AVI, we need to figure out what is BU file format. BU files are uncommon files primarily associated with a Samsung DVR like CCTV (Closed-circuit television) recording system. Bu files contain surveillance video in a proprietary Samsung format and are playable on Samsung devices or with Samsung's video software. When you are trying to open a .BU file on Windows, Mac, media players, iOS, other portable devices, you will get the info that BU files are not supported by them.

To convert BU to AVI, we need a converting tool. Find Cicever BU Converter to have a try. It also provides a nice guide on how to convert BU to AVI here: http://www.cicever.com/how-to/bu-converter-player.html

Trying to set up tivo series 2 without remote

There are different codes depending on whether the Tivo was set to respond as a specific device (1 or 2) on the remote or by standard default (device 0). Also, typically each universal remote has its own code for each device, which is specific to the remote, not the device you wish to control. For the $20.00, it might not be a bad thing to simply buy a new universal remote that is capable of controlling a PVR (There are many good ones out there).

Tivo and direct tv

No, unfortunately there is not. That tivo only has 1 tuner, so you can only record or watch 1 live program. You can however watch a pre-recorded program while recording a live program. If you have directv, you can step up and get their hr20 dvr. It's not a tivo by any means, but it has 2 tuners so you can record 2 things at once and watch a pre-recorded show. It takes a little while to get used to the interface, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty straightforward.

You can also get an older DVR w/ tivo (hr10) however, it will not get ANY of the new MPEG4 High Def channels that are out there.

If you have an hdtv, then you really should grab an hr20, give directv customer retention a call and ask what they can do for you. You'll need a new slimline dish and they'll come out install it and everything you need for watching off the new satellites and enjoying the new mpeg4 hd channels (the old hd channels are in mpeg2).

Good luck.
