Sounds like you're having vertical problems. I saw the vertical chip on this set go bad several times. Location is CN301. Sometimes you may see a big dent or even a hole in it. If that is the case, you need to replace it and check around it for any blown parts or loose solder joints. If you don't do that, the new chip will be destroyed. I have it in stock if you want it.

Hi- I'm pretty sure this model also uses the same vertical output chip as the GB4308. Can you do it ? Frankly this is hard to say. You need to be able to work very carefully and to take the board out, or at least partially to get to the bottom of the main pcb to do some soldering / unsoldering. I don't know anything about your abilities. It is fairly easy to replace the chip but you have to be able to check for loose connections around it and also all the electrolytic capacitors in the vertical area. If you had done electronics work before, I'd say go for it. But if you never touched a soldering iron before, it could be tough for you - especially since any slip or wrong move can make things much worse. Sorry, but I'm trying to be honest with you. I can sell you the chip $12.99 shipped. Thanks.

Tv screen only shows half of the picture ?

I would imagine the bottom or top half is black. My first suspicion, the vertical IC has bad grounds and needs resoldering. Do not short the pins together with excess solder! I would certainly start there for repairs. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Picture looks like it is warped at the bottom and top of the picture. Have picture, no problem there, just not a centered picture anymore. Looks like the top of a half moon on the top and botom.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some images of convergence problems.

you might have bad caps or the vertical output integrated circuit, try to locate the vertical ic and check the surrounding areas for bad capacitors.

Problem with wacthind dvd in full screen and black dot on screen

Not sure I understand the half of the tv and half of the dvd player. Are you saying about mid way of your set is cut off and like the bottom half you have a picture and the top no picture? I can explain the dot, first you can open back of set and maybe take off hole back bezel. Get where you can put your head down in front of C R T's (tubes) and look down in them and see if you see the same thing in one or all three of the tubes. If so this explain the dot. The half problem sounds like vertical is missing. Not sure yet! Need feed back
