Dark Screen and red and blue lines

When my tv is first turned on the screen is dark and there is a red and blue line in the first inch or so at the top of the screen. After a while the darkness seams to go away but the lines are starting to stay but appear to be in a very gradual arc at the top. The set is from the year 2000 and has never had any problems or any work at all done on it. Thanks

Would the leaky capacitor be in addition to the bulb from the darkness or could that be causing that also? In addition, what is a appropriate charge for the repair.

Dark unstable picture
1. CHECK C2P05 100 UFD 16 V OFF PIN 3 OF IC2P01 AND CHECK IC2P01 PART # 270P466020 (9-VOLT REGULATOR). BOTH ARE ON THE SIGNAL PCB. you may also have a convergance problem. failure of convergance amps cause the arch at the top. the picture will look slightly out of focus. the cost of your repair may be $300.00 to $375.00

Those lines tell me that you may have a leaky electrolytic capacitor in your vertical circuit.

I am trying to help my neighbor. She has a Sanyo flat screen tv Model DS20930. The picture she gets is a thin line across the center of the screen.

Hello
Set the brightness, contrast and colour control of that TV to minimum. Watch it in a dark room whether ther are thin white lines across the screen, at about an inch apart, from bottom to top of the screen. If there are lines, that TV needs screen control adjustments. That is, now the screen voltage given to the picture tube went high to some reasons. If you have confidence that you can adjust it, I will guide you.
Open the back cover of that TV. Locate the LOT [Line output Transformer], usually one red thick wire is connected to the top of the picture tube with the help of a rubber ****** and clip. In most TVs it can be located and can be seen as the back cover opened. There are two variable control, fitted, integrated to LOT. Normally the upper one is marked as focus, and the lower one is marked as screen. You shoud adjust this control to avoid these lines.
It is a live service, that is the TV must be switched on during this time, and take causion in every respect not hurt by yoursef and the TV. Keep the children away from you, and an other adult person beside you is better. A liitle turn counterclockwise will remove this problem.

After a household power blips during bad weather, we have horizontal lines ....

Unfortunately there isn't any way to repair your tv as the magnet has distorted the tube that is in the tv and with CRT becoming obsolete the repair is likely to be very costly so probably your chaepest option is to buy a new tv .

Faint blue vertical bars on screen

What you see on your screen are retrace lines, it can happen for various reasons. Jut lower the screen voltage by adjusting the knob specified as "screen" on the LOT, this will disappear.

Dark and red picture

First you can up the screen voltage, by finding the HV transformer. It has Screen and Focus control on it this it the Transformer that is in back of set and has an anode lead going to Picture tube. Come up on the screen control slowly and if the picture brightens with vertical lines then it's too high, The red problem is a small transistor that maybe located on the CRT board. It's probably shorted. There are about 3, each going to the different colors Red, Blue, Green.

Dark screen/picture.

This 30" flat screen TV set may have a problem in the high voltage circuit of the TV set. You may be able to adjust this by taking off the back of the TV set. Look for the block where the large red wire runs up to the top of the picture tube. On this block will be two controls. one will say screen and one will say focus. Try and slowly turn the control that says screen or S on it clockwise and see if you can make the picture brighter. Turn up the control till you just start to see faint lines in the picture, then back the control down till the lines go away. If the picture does not come up when you turn this up, and all you get is a blank screen, you will need to have this set repaired by a qualified repair person. Good Luck

Tv too dark to see

To get rid of the white lines look at the place where you turned the control. It should be called the screen control, turn down the screen control counterclockwise till the white lines just go away. If the picture is still dark, you will need to have this set serviced as there is a problem in the crt driver board, or the power supply board. good Luck

The TV turns on and you can hear the sound but the picture is dark except for a thin line of blue dots in the center of the screen.

You have whats known in the biz as a cold solder connection on the vertical output IC or on the associated components. Not a job for the handi-man unless you know the issues with safty, and precautions to take with Hi voltage inside of tv sets. Shouldnrt cost much for the local shop to find your problem . Now on rare occations the poor connections are inside the IC and the IC has to be replaced. Good Luck
