Re: Not turning on
If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause." Hi! I think you should try this (i've already tried it and it works): 1- Unplug your Zen from your Computer. 2-Turn off your Zen (if you can't do it, press the "Reboot" button) 3- BEFORE turning on your Zen, press your "Play" button and hold it while you turn on. 4-When a format menu appears, select the "Format All" option (you'll loose all your Zen data). 5-When the format menu reapears, select the "Reboot" option and listo! You have your Zen as new and should not have problem. Good luck!
Well you can try this if you still got the zen, press the reste button, dont hold just press it then hold down the power button and it will start up but mine just kept on going black fter a while so i had to put it into recovery mode by doing the following. Hold down play untill the end Press the reset button Hold down the power button Makes sure you releas the play button last after that do Reload Firmware i think then it will delete the firmware make sure you have this downloaded on your computer http://support.creative.com/downloads/download.aspx?nDownloadId=10889 its the newest firmware when you downloaded this plug in your zen into the computer and it should turn on your zen and then say Firmware problem and if it doesnt just put it into recovery mode then plug it in. Then make sure all application are turned off like Mozzila or the Internet Explorer, then just double click on the firmware and it should fix
Usually this problem is due to the firmware. When the firmware is updated to version 1.62.02, this problem usually will be corrected. The older firmwares have problems in recognizing the battery and allowing the battery to power the unit.
You will need a wall/AC charger for the operation. Plug in the wall charger and USB cable at the same time. Your Zen should power on when connected to direct AC power via the wall charger. Once it is powered on, connect the USB cable to your computer. Then begin the firmware download.
If your Zen does not power on when connected to the wall charger, your unit is dead and its time to replace it or get the motherboard replaced via one of the Repair services offered on this website.
If the upgrade button on the firmware window is not available, it is also time to replace your motherboard due to corruption of a chip on the board.

also try this if above doesnt work
Have you tried hitting the small reset button on the bottom of the unit with a paper clip or similar object? I have had mine freeze and shut off and not do anything before and this seemed to fix the problem. This has only happened with corrupted or unsupported file types as far as I can tell.
Also, if you got the unit second hand, the batteries may need to be replaced, as lithium polymer batters do wear out eventually and wont take a charge.
