Dell E173FP: Screen Washes out

Ok, this is kind of tricky to describe... here goes.

The monitor was working fine then all the sudden when I turned it back on the screen had green bars running vertically on the screen (kind of looked like bars on a window). Then in a span of 15 to 30 seconds the screen gets really fuzzy and progressively washes out to a white color. It is like the color is going away one pixel at a time. When I turn it off and back on it refocuses itself to a quasi-clear state and then does the same thing again. At times there was a rainbowish ring in the upper left quadrant of the screen.

Thats the best I can do any assistance would be awesome!

Thanks, Kyle

Not a happy machine...

1. Check in systems manager, device manager, to see that the monitor is clean, with no ? mark or ! point.

2. Reinstall drivers..

3. check all connections to monitor for fit. Unplug and check the connectors for grit or crud.

4. Get a new monitor.

First check your monitor light is blinking or not. If it is then--

Check your monitor cable which is connected your CPU. If it is ok then
Open your CPU and unplug *********** board power cable and re-install it.
And also remove RAM and clean with a brush softly and re-install it.

Hello Sir, I am using DELL E173FP LCD monitor. My CPU absolutely fine I see initially booting thing on my monitor display then it gets black. I can hear starting sound of Windows XP, that too is fine. When...

You might need to change the screen refresh rate. Go do Control Panel> Display> Setting> Advance, choose 60 Hz. In order to make your Monitor able to display, restart the PC, press F8 on the keyboard frequently upon splashing ( 1 or 2 seconds after PC restarts). Select enable VGA mode by pressing up arrow of the keyboard> press enter. The display should look bigger, then you can start adjusting the screen refresh rate to 60 Hz

Monitor screen goes blank at intervals. If I turn

You may have to open it up and look for bad soderling works, see my pictures to see what bad solderign joints look like. Also check fuses, connectors, etc.
See what goes wrong with Dell monitors here:

I assumed that it does the same with other PC also.

Describe your Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor Problem The monitor seems to be turning itself repeatedly on and off. No picture is ever seen, the screen stays black with a slight flicker.

Sounds like the monitor is cycling power.
Try plugging the monitor into a different power socket. Try not to use the same power bar as your computer

Monitor keeps turning off but power says it's still on

You are OK with the power cord, more likely to be failure in the power supply/Inverter board, look for bad fuse and shorterd transistors, see Dell pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Transistors should be checked out off circuits.

Was watching a movie on my computer last night and all the sudden the screen started turning off and on with no picture when it was on. Has the monitor gone bad or is it a video card issue?

The simple way to check if this is a Monitor issue or not, you can unplug the monitor from the Computer and connect it only to the power outlet. If it gives you a "No signal" screen or goes through any sort of other Self test, Your monitor is fine. You can also check if the power led is blinking Amber or Green. A blinking Amber LED while the monitor is only connected to the Wall outlet indicates the monitor is faulty.
