Hmmm..you mean the cartridge carrier? Try turning off the printer(unplug from the outlet) let it rest for around 1 or 2 minutes(to discharge all the electronics) and then try again. You may have a jammed carriage assembly, from what you're saying, but sometimes it also happens when the machine hits a power speed bump too.
