The last SIM card inserted married the phone. You can take the phone to a local provider and they have the unlock codes to unmarry the phone from the SIM. Then you will be able to put SIM in. This doesn't happen all of the time.
First request the phone's IMEI code by contacting customer service for T-Mobile. If you've been a customer long enough, T-Mobile may send the IMEI code, or the code identifying the specific phone, in a few days.Turn off the Sidekick Slide. Remove T-Mobile's SIM card, which is located near the battery. Insert the new provider's SIM card.Turn the Sidekick Slide back on. The phone will detect the new code and ask for the IMEI code. Enter the code. Now the Sidekick will operate using the new network.
once it says to enter your "special code" you hit cancel and it enables the sim pin. then you go to change sim pin, put in your old sim pin and put in a new one. then go to network settings and select "scan and select manually". once you find at&t click done and you can use the sidekick.
Sorry, the sidekick II doesn't have a battery that can be pulled out. You need to pull back the bumper on one side to access the sim card slot.
Follow these instructions to remove your operator-supplied SIM card from your device:
Turn off your device by pressing the power on/off key.
Expose the SIM card slot by peeling back the bumper from the top-left edge of the device:
Press down on the silver "catch" and the SIM card will spring out of its slot. Remove the SIM card carefully. (Always handle your SIM card carefully since the card and gold contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bends. Be sure to keep SIM cards out of reach of small children.)
Now insert the SIM card containing the contacts you want to import:
Insert the SIM card into its slot with the gold contacts facing up and the cut corner facing out.
When you release the SIM card make sure it is locked into position behind the catch so it doesn't spring out.
The SIM card slot on a Sidekick II is located on the top left corner of the device, under the rubber "bumper". The support section of T-Mobile's website has a diagram showing how to insert the SIM in a Sidekick 2.
