HP 2820 printer stopped printing and gave a "check supplies" message with the print cartridge indicator showing the black ink cartridge. We replaced the black ink cartridge with a new one and get the same message. It still will not print. It gives the same message. Anyone have a solution?

Try cleaning the print head cradle with alcohol. That is what the little copper circuits on your ink cartridges sit in. Make sure you have it off before doing this. Clean it with alcohol and a swab if you have nothing else. Using something like a silk cloth would be preferable. The silk cloth will not leave fibers behind. Remove and reinstall your software if this does not work. And I do have to agree with the fella above. Sometimes HP printers just don't cut it. I had several. I also had a very nice Canon photo printer. The best luck I've had with all of them was a $15 Lexmark printer from Walmart believe it or not.

This is a classic failure mode of HP Printers. I've tossed out two of them for the same reason, after fooling around for hours and wasting a couple of cartridges. My solution? Buy a different printer next time -- Canon, Brother, etc.

SOURCE: Black ink not working on HP C5180 Photosmart

Try a hard restart, which simply means unplugging the power cord of the printer, and replugging it after one minute has passed. If that does not work, then rerun the CD used to install the printer. Both techniques reprogram the electronics, to a certain extent.
You can also visit the HP website, to see what solutions are being offered for various printer problems. They probably have a number to call, in case you need to talk to a technician.
Hope these suggestions help you out.

I am unable to print on my HP Officejet Pro 8500. i have recently replaced the 940 black cartridge and since then have been unable to print. i notice there are print cartridges in the main body as well...

you can check the ink level from following steps Method one: Check the ink levels from the idle screen on the color graphics display Look for four icons at the bottom of the color graphics display. The icons represent the ink level remaining in each of the four color ink cartridges: black, yellow, light cyan (blue), and light magenta (pink). A larger and more accurate view of the ink levels can be displayed from the Setup menu. If an ink cartridge containing non-HP ink is being used, a question mark displays instead of the ink drop in the icon for that cartridge. The HP All-in-One cannot detect the amount of ink remaining in ink cartridges that contain non-HP ink. Figure 1: Non-HP ink iconc00841629.jpg NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. Printer service or repairs required as a result of printer failure or damage attributable to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty. If a hollow ink drop icon displays, the ink cartridge represented by that color icon has very little ink remaining and will need to be changed soon. You might be able to continue printing for a short period of time with ink remaining in the print head assembly. Replace the ink cartridge when the Replace Soon warning message displays on the color graphics display. Figure 2: Low ink level iconc00841630.jpg When the Empty Ink message appears on the color graphics display, the indicated ink cartridge is out of ink. Replace the indicated ink cartridge. Method two: Check ink levels from the Windows computer The estimated amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges can be checked from the computer. See the on-screen HP Director Help for information on checking the ink levels from the Printer
  1. Open the printer Toolbox. To do so, do one of the following:
    • Open HP Solution Center, click the Settings menu, then point to Print Settings , then click Printer Toolbox .
    • Right-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the tray, then point to your printer model name, and click Display Printer Toolbox .
    The Toolbox opens.
  2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink level gauges display.
Method three: Check ink levels from the Setup menu
  1. Press Setup on the printer control panel.
  2. Scroll down and select Display Ink Gauge . The Ink Gauge status from the Tools menu will only display on the color graphics display.

If the ink level is low and the cartridge is new please contact the dealer from whom you got the cartridge and if it shows that the ink level is good enough please comment so that i can give you another step to perform

I have an HP color printer. When printing the black does not print well even though it shows that the black print cartridge has plenty of ink in it. Is there a way of: 1. Diagnosing if it is the print...

Black printer ink in HP Printer may fail to be recognized by the printer. Most times an error message will be sent indicating that something is wrong with the black print cartridge. Sometimes the printer may accept to print with the black ink, but the printouts may have horizontal lines and very illegible letters. In such a case a manual cleaning of the print head should be carried out. In doing the manual cleaning, one should spray Windex heavily on paper towel and wipe off the surface of the print head.

I replaced an ink cartridge because the printer stopped working and showed a message that the old cartridge is empty. However after putting the new one in but the printer still refuses to work and shows...

maybe the cartridge is wrong, release it and clean the electrical contacts, put them again one by one, if notting happen, try this
Solution As the printer operates, it moves ink from the ink cartridges into a printhead reservoir. The printer does not deliver a message when an ink cartridge goes empty, because it still has ink in the reservoir. The printer continues printing until the ink level in the reservoir falls to a first trigger point - then a message appears advising the printer owner to Replace Cartridges Soon . At this point, other cartridges that are empty but have not reached the trigger point are also mentioned in the message, to save trips to the retailer. After the first trigger point, the printer can continue printing until ink levels in the reservoir reach a second trigger point. At the second trigger point there is only enough ink left to perform vital servicing tasks, and a new message appears, saying Ink Cartridges Empty . The options offered depend on the usable inks remaining. If no options are offered, the cartridges indicated must be replaced before printing can continue. The Ink Cartridges Empty options are described in the table below: Ink colors out Option Print mode possible All Cancel None Black

AND

Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow (any or all) Black only Continue with other colors Cyan/Magenta/Yellow mode (composite black)

Text and photo quality will differ from those printed when all colors are available Light Cyan or Light Magenta (either or both) Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow (any or all)

(Black still available) Print with black ink only Grayscale

Replaced black toner..now printer won't print any

In this case, actually it is not the Black toner that got depleted. Here the message being displayed indicate that one of the color Toner supply need to be replaced as it got depleted and currently the printer is printing in Black and white using the Black toner cartridge.

in this case, to troubleshoot these issues please try performing the following and check for the results.

* 1. Check for the level of the toner cartridges:

a) Check from the HP Toolbox application. Here are the steps to be performed from your PC:

* Access the Toolbox software.
* Select the Status tab.
* Select the Device status option.

Here you can check for the supplies status in terms of the % remaining for each toner cartridges.

b) By checking the supplies status from the printer control panel display.

On the printer display when printer is in Ready mode the supplies status can be checked from the supplies level indicator. Each toner cartridge and the Imaging drum level will be indicated by a bar which varies according to the level of the supplies present.

c) Print the supplies status page from the printer.

* On the printer control panel menu, press Menu .
* Use the (Right Arrow) button to select Reports, and then press Enter .
* Use the (Right Arrow) button to select Supplies Status, and then press Enter .

If any of the color toner cartridges and the Imaging drum have a low supply level replace them with genuine HP print cartridges.

The part numbers of the consumables are as follows:

* Black print cartridge - Q3960A
* Cyan print cartridge - Q3971A
* Magenta print cartridge - Q3973A
* Yellow print cartridge - Q3972A

Officejet d135 - "Supply Expired" error message

HP, in order to sell more ink, monitors the expiration date of the cartridges installed. Solution is either to buy a new unexpired cartridge from HP or to disable the date monitoring built in to the printer. This latter is done by removing the button cell located inside the D135 printer on the left hand side or by simply slipping a thin piece of plastic between button cell and metal contact. You will no longer have date function on printer, but it won't object to expired cartridges either.

My Hp PSC 1350v

Hi, I really appericate all your efforts to fix the issue the issue usually occures if any one of the cartridge is defective or low in ink or both the cartridge are defective. We can isolate the issue only by removing the both the cartridges out of the printer and check for the expiry dates printed on the cartridges as if the cartridges are expired also leads to this message. If the cartridge are not expired and have minumial ink in it you can try the below procedure to isolate the defective cartridge Once the both the cartridges are out of the printer insert only the black cartridge in the printer and check for the message if the message is install color cartridge the black cartridge and printer is detecting fine. If the message is check right cartridge this shows that the black cartridge is defective. If the message is insert left cartridge or color cartridge remove the black cartridge out and insert only the color cartridge and check with the message if the message is insert the black cartridge the color cartridge is working fine. And when the color cartridge is in the printer and if the message prompts to check left or color cartridge the color cartridge seems to be defective so replace the defective one will fix the issue So in isolation we can find the defective cartridge and fix the issue by replacing the defective one.. Hope this will help you to fix the issue.. Wish you success. Regards, Barret.
