I think I know what the problem is, this actually happened on a dryer I repaired at one point. Low line voltage to me means that one or more hot leads is not feeding enough voltage to the heating elements (and the heating elements need both hot leads to run) which means the circuit breaker, although on, may be malfunctioning or weakening. You can check this by running your dryer and taking the cover off your circuit panel and checking voltage on the breaker. You should see 110V on each terminal to ground (put leads from one terminal to the grounding bar in the panel). If you see less than 110V on each lead to ground and less that 240V across the terminals it needs to be replaced. (You can get one for under $25.00 depending on brand). NOTE: THE BREAKER USUALLY POPS RIGHT OUT OF THE PANEL, BUT WHEN WORKING IN PANEL TURN MAIN BREAKER OFF TO THE HOUSE AND HAVE SOMEONE HOLD A FLASHLIGHT FOR YOU. IF YOU TOUCH THE LIVE BUSS BAR THAT BREAKER GOES INTO YOU WILL GET SEVERELY HURT. TURNING OFF MAIN BREAKER WILL DISENGAGE THE POWER FROM THE BUSS BARS; NOTE THAT MAIN WIRES ARE STILL POWERED SO BE CAREFUL.
This is an easy check, and it might fix your problem, though it also may be something else. Turn the circuit breaker for your dryer outlet off, then back on. The circuit breaker will be located in the main breaker panel of the house. It should be labeled "dryer" or something like that. It will be a double breaker, meaning that there are two breakers tied together physically.
I am wondering if one of the two breakers has lost contact or tripped. That could possibly allow the light to work, but prevent the motor and heat from working.
It's an easy check, and there is a chance this is all that is needed.
There are other possibilities, but this is a very easy noe to check, so why not start here?
First, find your breaker box and locate the breaker that runs the dryer. Now flip the breaker off and then back on. Now try the dryer. If it made not change. Gain access to the back of dryer. There is a small panel toward the bottom that you can take off. After unplugging the dryer, take the little panel off. Look inside and check the belt. Make sure it is tight and still going around the motor shaft and pulley. With this model, there is a switch that turns the dryer off so that it will not run when the belt comes off. If the belt is on, you will have a bad thermal fuse and bad cycling thermostat. The thermal fuse is located on the top of the element housing and the cycling thermostat is located on the blower housing. When the cycling thermostat goes out the dryer then cycles on the thermal fuse until it goes bad. This then cuts the power on one leg of the 220V coming to the dryer. Remember, a dryer runs off of 220vs. This consist of two 110v legs. The element is the only component inside the dryer that works off of both 110v legs. Some component work off of one leg and the other component work off the other. When you loose one leg, some things will work and others will not. I hope this makes since. Yes its in the rear under the panel, I would look at the breakers in the electrical box first the dryer is on a circuit alone. The breaker could be thrown, it mite not look as it is just turn it off and then back to on.
It's rather unusual for any internal failure to cause the dryer to just stop in cycle. Check the circuit breaker that supplies the dryer. It should be a double-pole breaker of at least 30 amps. Turn the breaker off and back on to ensure it is reset. Internal causes could be the motor, door switch, thermal safety switch, timer, or a broken wire.
The problem may not be with your dryer but with the circuit breaker...
Locate the circuit breaker for the dryer. Run the dryer for awhile and with the back of your finger pressed against each of the two switches (it will be a double breaker), see if the breaker is getting warm or wait until the dryer quits then check the breaker for any noticeable increase in temperature. With properly rated breakers, they should not get warm. If getting warm, it is a sign the breaker is bad and should be replaced.
The door switch needs to be checked. Is the tab on the door inserting into the hole where the door switch is and making the switch activate?
Is the Dryer plugged in good?
Is the Circuit Breaker feeding the dryer tripped? This is on the electrical supply cabinet for your home. You will see a ganged(meaning two switches paired together) Circuit breaker. Turn the switch off all the way and back on to reset.
