Question about HP OfficeJet 6110 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Chatters When I turn it on, my HP6110xi starts normally, and the cartridges move to the middle of the rod, but then a chatter sets in. It goes "dit dit dit" (pause for 1/2 second) "dit dit dit" (pause) ad infinitum until I turn it off. What is wrong?

After switching the printer on it gets ready to print and I hear the usual sounds, I persume the ink cartridge carrier moving but recently it has started making a loud chattering sound for a few seconds...

First of all, check to see if you also hookup the phone cable to jack too? If yes, temporary unplug it to see if noise goes off.
Also, open the lid to check on the drive belt. It may be loose and not able to drive the carriage. There is the gear on the right side of the carriage and a pulley on left side of the of the carriage. The spring which holds the pulley tight might be broken. Check that to see if it is the case. If it is that is why it makes loud noise when printing. And if it is not fixed, eventually you will receive an error message and printer will not work.
Check that and let me know.

Carrige goes to extreme right and chatters. this occured just after cleaning, had worked fine before the cleaning

Alignment is off on the slider track that the carriage moves left/right on. Power down, move the carriage to the far left. power back on and let the system calibrate. There should be a reset sequence where you hold down the menu or online button and keep it down while you turn the unit on. That will put it in a self test mode that you can cancel by powering off then back on.

When I turn on the power to the printer, the print carriage cycles to the right as normal then carriage sticks and begins to continually the same time the light bar on the scanner trys to...

There is usually a sensor on one side or the other of the carriage. When you power up the machine, the carriage will be moved to that end, setting off the sensor. Then it will move back and forth to test carriage motion. If the end sensor is faulty, the carriage will still attempt to move until it triggers the sensor, but when it gets to the extreme end, the motor will continue to attempt to move it, causing the chatter. After a time, it will stop with an error message.

Look at the carriage where the cartridges are, and you should see some kind of tab or ear on it. If it's broken, then you may get the symptoms I mentioned above. Also if you can see the sensor, make sure that it's not broken or moved out of place.

Cartridge dock malfunction?

I answered a similar question 5 mins ago

It sounds as though your print head got jammed and did not resturn to its 'parking place'

Open the cover and look at the printing head (where the ink sits).

Is it located to the very far right or is a couple of inches out from the right?

If it is out, gently push it back to the right as far as it will go, then power it back on, it should do all of its checks as normal and the head will move a few times, but it should return to the far right and then be ready for printing.

Check there is no paper jammed anywhere and reload any paper.

Try to print again

Does it now work??
