My Presario SR1750NX won't boot up

M Presario SR1750NX locked up so I did ctrl - alt - del to get the task manager and shut down. Now the computer won't start up at all. It has power, the hard drive seems to be running but the monitor shows nothing after a screen saying the power saver is turning on. Nothing works. no boot up checks on any of the drives, no Beep Beep at the start, nothing
The button on the front turns the computer on but won't turn it off. I have to unplug to shut it off. I have unplugged everything except the keyboard and mouse. all the fans are running.

I could not get the computer to shut down after turning off. I held the off/on switch until it shut down. When I booted about two days later, nothing. No response from monitor, keyboard, mouse, ethernet card, nothing except fan and on/off light. Nothing.

How long are you pressing the power button in? Try pressing and holding the power button for 5 -10 seconds. The computer SHOULD shut off then. What version of Windows are you running? Based on what you said, there is a slight possiblity that your video card is no longer functioning. Let me know what happens.

Hey there johndee50, start your computer again. When the power to the fans is up, push in on the power button and hold it there for several seconds. The computer will shut down. Start it again and let me know if any problems arise or any messages appear. Good Luck!

When go to start then shut down computer does not shut down why

Something is running in the background that is interfering. Most of the time this is Windows Update taking its' sweet time downloading updates and installing, especially if you have it set to auto update. Could be something else though. Hit CTRL/ALT/DEL, open Task Manager and see what is running. Right click on anything open and tell it to stop process.

When I click on documents, music, pictures, computer and more I get a "System call failed" message.

Hello maribeautybu,

You can Open Task manager-CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill the explorer.exe process. This will cause your desktop to go blank. Then do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and run Task Manager then new task - type in explorer.exe.

Cant get back to desktop

Pretty vague help request "can't get back to desktop". Is the computer booting? Is it that your desktop is blank after it boots with no icons being shown on the desktop? Viruses can hide the desktop and other things on the computer. Maybe your boot process has the problem when it tried to display the desktop. Try hitting the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys. Hold down each key as you hit them and don't take your finger off the keys until after you have pressed the DEL (Delete) Key. This will bring up your Task Manager. In the task manager window click the Processes tab and look for explorer.exe. If you see it click explorer.exe to highlight it then click End Process. After you end the process click FILE at the top left corner of the Task Manager Window and click the option New Task (run). When the Create New Task window opens type: explorer.exe and press OK. This will cause your desktop to reappear with icons if windows had a problem displaying it on the boot process.

My computer freezes, the only thing I ca do with

If it is the video going on when it freezes, then you can try the following link.

Multiple antivirus softwares may cause problems because they may not cooperate well. A lot of wrong settings may cause performance issue too. You can check for those with the following link.

Some corrupted entries in your registry may affect the performance.
You can scan for virus and tune up your PC by using the following link.

Otherwise can you observe what applications are running when it crashes. That application may be causing some resource bottleneck of your system. If it is a big graphic transaction program then your graphic card may need an update. You may remove or unload that application and see how it'd go if you remember that application. Sometimes a program connecting to an Internet server for update all the time will take all your resources while running for a while. To see what is running, you can open task manager by pressing Ctrl+Del+Alt at the same time. To see what is loaded when your computer starts, you can use the msconfig command (by typing it in the command bar opened by clicking Start->Run) and check the startup programs and services. If you want to see what is running during the crash, then you will need to setup the dump file to be written. Details about that can be found with the following link.

On starting hp pavilion m7680y. I get: AOL error:

Open the Windows Task Manager (in WinXP) by pressing and holding down CTRL-ALT-DEL. In the Applications tab, highlight each program and click the End Task button. Once the Applications tab is empty, close the Windows Task Manager. Then, launch AOL again. (If you’re using an earlier OS, such as Windows 98, press CTRL-ALT-DEL to open the Close Program window, and close every program except Explorer and Systray.)

Task Manager Disabled

Try using Ctrl+Shift+Escape This should open the task manager directly. If it does not check that C:\windows\system32\taskmgr.exe exists.

My computer is locked up with the Roxio media manager unable to shut down or cancel out and I cant delete my blackberry install etc??

well when an application is locked and (not responding) try to force it to shut off by going into task manager (rick click on the bar at the bottom of your desktop on any unused area and a menu will show the task manager then select it by clicking on it, or to type ctrl+alt+del and select task manager) and go into applications and select the application an click on end task, and click ok on any other window that comes up thereafter.

if that does not get your application to shut down, try to do it by looking for the process that runs the application and go into the processes tab in task manager and end any process related with the application (you may need to know or guess what process to end as the names sometimes may be acronyms of short versions of the actual name of the program you're running on the system.
