The print heads are clogged with dry ink.

The printer will not print. A service engineer said that the print heads are clogged with dry ink. I only used the printer once every two to three months.

Yup, thats the problem....

To keep them clean you need to almost use the printer weekly....or at least once per month min....

Try running the head cleaning utility....
You can run it as long as you have ink in your cartridges, maybe 5 times in a row....Wait about 10 minutes and try again....

With luck it will unclog itself....

Note: Your cartridge can also dry out (Yes the liquid evaporates), and leaves the pigment in the cartridge, which can further clog your machine....

As a last resort there are a few vendors on the internet where you can purchase head cleaning solution for epson cartridges....

Note; This problem is more common with printers that use pigment based ink as it tends to settle in the cartridge. Dye based ink has a shorter "Brilliance lifespan" but tends not to clog...

My printer only prints magenta\

Hi,
A color or photo cartridge is either low, clogged or has run out of one of the basic colors it mixes together to create the colors in your images. The printer cannot print correctly if it lacks one of the basic colors, even if it still contains some of the other colors. The cartridge may also be clogged. The cartridge must be replaced

This may help

You can try to clean the printer head manually. To clean the printer head, remove the ink cartridge from the printer. Moisten a cotton swab by dipping it in hot water or isopropyl alcohol, and then gently wipe the printer head. Do this repeatedly until it softens the dried ink.

For models where the printer head is located in the printer, you can put 7 to 10 drops of isopropyl alcohol in the ink receptacle where the ink flows from the cartridge to the head. Turn the printer to self-cleaning mode. You can also leave it for a few hours or overnight before repeating the self-cleaning mode.

If the print head is located in the cartridge, soak the print head in hot water and let it soak overnight. Dry the print head part using a paper towel and switch it to self-cleaning mode.

If the hot water soak does not work, place the cartridge printer head in isopropyl alcohol and let it soak overnight. Wipe off the soaked area and dry it carefully using a damp paper towel. Turn the printer to self-cleaning mode to remove any dried ink.

Clogged print head

Take print head out, clean with alcohol wipe or swab, re install. Have had to do it more than once if ink has dried a lot. The only other option is to replace head.

Lines show up throughout print jobs

Your print heads most likely need to be cleaned.

When you don't use your ink carts for a while, when you get new ink carts that have been stored in warehouses for a number of months, or when you have refilled a slightly too dry ink cart, the print head nozzles on the bottom of the ink carts get clogged with dried ink. The printer head cleaner menu will not disolve the dried ink. Water will. Try this. Soak the bottom of the clogged ink cart in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15-30 minutes. Blot dry with clean paper towel(you should see the ink color on the towel). Retry.

Have ink, but its not printing. the paper is doing the right thing ,but not putting ink on paper

Please make sure that the print head is not clogged. The ink can flow out easily from the print head. How do you know if there is no dry ink clogging the print head? Remove the cartridge and run the print head in a soft smooth paper, see if the inks was left in the paper proportionally. If no ink marks then its clogged.

flushing the print head of the cartridge directly from the tap water will help ....Open your printer cover, remove the cartridge..place the printhead directly on a tap water running slowly. This will help flush the dried ink that clogged in the printhead. Turn the print head over, bottom side up until you see the ink flowed out from the printhead, do this until you see the a smooth flow of ink..(better result if the water is warm).. tap water contains residual minerals that can clog also the printhead..so it is advisable to final flush the printhead with a distilled water (it has no impurities) and dry it with cloth..

The last thing to do and it will take you sometime is to soak the printhead portion of your cartridge in a mixture of ammonia and hot distilled water, (please make sure that the contact point of the cartridge to the printer is not soak).. Place the printhead on the hot water and leave it there for about 4 to 5 hours..move it on different location from time to time..After soaking, rinse it with distilled water and dry it with cloth...

After doing the instructions, return back the cartridge to the printer and do the printhead alignment..

Try printing a test page and see the outcome...

If you find this information very helpful, would you be kind to rate this solution. Thanks

My printer won't print anything - only blank pages. However, both ink cartridges have ink. Please help!

If the self-cleaning cycle does not solve the problem, try turning the printer off overnight to allow the ink to soften. Turn the printer on the next day and try printing a test pattern to see whether the problem has either disappeared or become less noticeable. This ink-saving procedure can work effectively because sometimes the dried ink on the print head needs time to soften before the printer head can be cleaned completely. Try running the self-cleaning utility again one or more times.
Steps for Manually Cleaning the Printer Head

If the overnight cleaning still does not work, there may be a layer of thick ink that is blocking the holes of the printer's head. The next option is to manually clean the printer head. Follow these steps:

* Determine from the owner's manual where the print head is located.
* Remove the ink cartridge from your printer and then dip a cotton swab in hot water or isopropyl alcohol and rub it against the print head. This should loosen any crusted ink. NOTE: Be careful, especially if you use isopropyl alcohol to clean your print heads: Some printers use rubber gaskets, and if you get isopropyl alcohol on the gaskets it could dry them out.
* For models where the print head is in the printer, drop 7 to 10 drops of isopropyl alcohol (91% denatured isopropyl alcohol - not 'rubbing' alcohol) down the ink receptacle area where the ink actually flows from the cartridge into the head. Run a few self-cleaning utilities. If possible, allow the printer to sit a few hours or overnight and repeat the self-cleaning utility.
* If the print head is in the cartridge, soak the cartridge print head in hot water. Allow it to soak overnight. Dry the print head area with a paper towel. Repeat the self-cleaning utility.
* If the hot water soak did not unclog the print head, place the cartridge printer head in isopropyl alcohol and allow it to soak overnight. Use a damp paper towel to wipe off the print head area and dry carefully. Try the self-cleaning utility again.
* If the alcohol soak did not unclog the print head in the cartridge you may need to purchase a new cartridge. This will provide new print heads that won't be clogged. Contact a service technician for repair of print heads in the printer if the alcohol did not unclog the printer head.

My ink levels are fine but print is very faint and lines are missing, it is illegible

Your print head is clogged or damaged. Press the print head into a paper towel. You should get a nice block of black or three stripes of color. If not, try placing print head on paper towels soaked with warm water to get the ink flowing (ink may soak through paper towels, so beware of where you do this). Then try pressing the print head onto dry paper towels as before. If you can't get the ink flowing, you need a new cartridge because the print head is clogged with dried up ink.

Epson 440 won't print

The ink dried up in the print head. A printer should be used at least every two weeks to keep from drying up the ink. You may have to replace the print head or have it serviced.
This is not much help. Bud
