Question about Samsung DVD-VR330 VCR and DVD Recorder

4 Answers

New DVDs will not complete the format process.

I have used this same package of DVDs (maxell DVD +RW ) to record on for months. I just tried to format one from the package I have been using and it will only format to 65%, then the following message appears - you could not format disk, error found.

The DVD player still plays DVDs just fine.

I have cleaned the DVD player with the DVD cleaner disk and i have used DVD cleaner wipes on the DVD's.

Yes, I thought of using other DVDs, but it does not solve the problem. I have used these same DVDs in the past and they have worked fine, so this tells me that something has changed and that there is possibly a problem with the DVD player. I am looking to see if anyone else has had this same problem and found out either a solution or what the problem is.

I have two of these units and one just started not formatting. The other works fine even with the rejected disc from its twin.

I have had my VR330 for several months and have only just started to run into problems. Won't initialize the Maxell DVD+R (same brand I have been using all along). However - if I put in a DVD I've already recorded something onto it adds to that DVD just fine - WTF?

  • Anonymous Jul 05, 2008

Same problem. Used Maxell dvd discs exclusively and suddenly my Samsung stopped formatting. It just gets to 10% and ejects the disc and says you cannot format disc due to error detection. Discs that are previously recorded will format and work fine.

burned discs just fine yesterday, today every disc from the same package, as well as 3 other kinds disc error.  powered off/on, not any better.
    has anyone found a solution?....

Talking from experience, mine was doing the same exact thing. I managed to align the laser a tad and it now worked like it did before. Under the laser mechanism are 2 tiny screws (eyeglass). These are called potentiometers. (variable resistors). 1 is for focus and the other is for beam. With the unit dvd tray facing the same way but upside down, look at the unit from the back. Mark the correct position of the screws with an extremelly fine tip writing instrument. Turn the 2 screws less than a hair clockwise. You may repeat if that does not work. In the event this should not work, put the screws back to there original postion indicated with your pen and try going countersclockwise with the same instructions as above. Worked for me the first time around. Was able to format RW discs. I recorded an hour show and it worked fine. I did not bother to try and R, for the simple fact that RW uses a brighter beam laser so more than likely it will work with an R.

Try unplugging Samsung for a minute or so. Re-start and try again. Worked for me.

When trying to record a home video VHS to DVD this is what I get. E-4 54040990 Cannot record on this disc. The disc is brand new.

Have you've tried cleaning the laser with a cleaning disc?

Failing this it may be worth removing the cover and cleaning the lens directly with a QTip and some lens cleaning fluid. Only use a drop and then wipe off with a clean dry QTip.

The other option is that you are using an incompatible format of blank DVDs. I've heard of people having problems using DVD-R & DVD-RW and although it is lised as being suitable for all types of recordable DVDs I belive you're best using DVD+R & DVD+RW.

The Manual states

Recordable disc

• We strongly recommend for good recording quality:

SONY DVD+RW 4x, MAXELL DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, SONY DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, TDK DVD+R 4x/8x/16x,

MAXELL DVD-RW 4x, MAXELL DVD-R 8x/16x

• Discs that have been tested and are proven to be compatible with this recorder:

VERBATIM DVD+RW 4x VERBATIM DVD+R 8x
VERBATIM DVD-RW x VERBATIM DVD-R 8x JVC DVD-RW 4x MAXELL DVD-R 16x

I recently received MAXELL DVD-R dvds as a gift. I have not been able to get these blank dvds to load so that I can record on them. I have recorded many SONY DVD+RW without a problem? I noticed that...

From looking over the manual they should work in your dvd recorder. The fact that they are reformatted might be the problem. The recorder needs to formate the discs before it can use them. Try having the recorder reformat the discs before you try to record to them see if that helps at all. From the reading of customer reviews I have looked over, it seems like the DVD+R 's are easier to work with overall. If formatting them again does not work I might go out and prchase DVD's you know that work and use these for back up or burning data or videos from a computer instead.
Good Luck.

Won't format new DVD-RW disks

i did everyting today to fix this. bought new dvds, name brands different, tried finding codes, called the number. trust me. try this. clean it. thats All i did. cleaned it with a dvd cd cleaning disc, the one with two little brushes on it, nothing special, ran it until i heard the beep, popped my dvd in, they all worked. everyone, im still recording. i ran it about four times. now, if you tried to burn a dvd, and got the error, throw that dvd away. because i tried about ten dvds. after i fixed it, THOSE dvds were no longer usable. dont know why. hope this works.

My classic DVR100 will not read DVD+R

There may be a problem with burning format. If you burn your own DVDs then try burning at the lowest speed and try again. Also not all players can play every media. The best solution is to try another DVD. This statement can be found in the player manual.

DVD Recorder will not format blank DVDs

I kept formatting DVD's until I got the unit to work. Mainly, it was some DVD's I had earlier problems formatting. I tried two new DVD's (Maxell DVD-RW) and they worked thus far. I truly think the unit needs to be taken to authorized service center for evaluation or minor maintenance. My suggestion is to verify the DVD's will work with unit. Try to use better quality ones like TDK or Maxell. Thanks for responding to my problem. If I have others, I will contact you.

Dvd/vcr recorder/magnavox

my solution may be to never buy this companies products again as I have been having the same issue and since the machine is not been used much and since the disks worked before it really ticks me off. The suggestion noted to my issue recently really didn't seem to be valid due my above statted time period of no problems then sudden isses tends to show me poor quality of equipment by manufaturer.

I had the same problem on my Philips 3400. Changing media worked. Try RW media if R does not work.

Samsung dvd-r130

I had the same problem and after reading and trying allot of disks I found the following to work.

Used Maxell - RW disk. Did a complete format on my computer (takes a while). Burned a DVD using Vista DVD burner with only a Jpg as per one of the other posts. Once the disk plays. Stop and goto disk management and format using DVD-V (VR did not work).

I know its not pretty but at least its better than throwing it in the garbage bin.

Problems with dvd reading

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY LG DVD RECORDER NOT EXCEPTING CERTAIN RECORDABLE DISCS . NO GUARANEES BUT TRY GOING TO YOUR SETUP MENU AND RE-SET THE ORIGINAL FACTORY SETTINGS FOR THE RECORDER THEN PUT A DVD CLEANER DISC IN YOUR RECORDER TAKES ABOUT TWO MINS TO CLEAN UNIT THEN TRY A BRAND THAT DOES WORK IN YOUR RECORDER OTHER THAN VERBATIM OR MAXEL . RECORD SOMETHING THEN EJECT IT . NOW TRY ONE OF YOUR MAXEL OR VIBATIM DISCS AND SEE IF IT WILL READ THIS TIME FOR RECORDING . GOOD LUCK . BEST REGARDS , blc7772001
