My sunbeam mixmaster is stuck on one speed - fast!

I have a sunbeam model A12 (approx 1964) and it has never missed a beat, has had regular services and has now become stuck on the highest speed.

There are very few electroncs palces around and no on seems tobe able to help me as I ahev been told that it needs a new speed ball and they can't get th eparts any more.

Can you help? Where can I get a speed ball for this model.

Mine does the same thing - does anyone know the value of the capacitor?

Mine also does the same thing, but I have a Mixmaster Power Plus. I'm not sure what to replace--it seems there are a bunch of electronic components hard-wired in.

Is the capacitor about 1.5" long and 1/2 inc in diameter and dows it fit between to prongs. I have a different model sunbeam 80-37BD and I think my capacitor is also covered in a ceramic or porcelin coating. Please tell me where I can see what a capacitor for this looks like. Thanks, Copygirl

It will be the motor suppression capacitor fitted accross the speed control. When they fail and go short circuit, sunbeams run at their highest speed. Remove it and replace and all will be well.

My sunbeam mixmaster is about 40 years old and suddenly stopped working

The running capacitor finally died. I used to be their factory service tech. You can change it easily by removing the back knob and the handle. The screws are under the silver buttons. The capacitor looks like a 3/4 x 1 1/4' tube with a small nib sticking out each end.

I have a Sunbeam Model A24 Mixmaster which will only operate at fast speed , I.E. the motor speed control no longer functions. Is it the capacitor? I have checked the points and they appear good.

G'day tandjcox842, did you get an answer to your question? If not, and you'd like to offload your mixmaster, I may be intersted. I've got one that works well but is missing parts. Regardz, Perry.

Mixmaster motor won't spin. Leads from circuit board to motor read 119 volts at the motor. voltage does not vary when speed knob is rotated but does turn off & on. 275 W sunbeam mixmaster, white...

so far I determined the thermal fuse had blown. I jumped around it but can get replacement. Now the motor runs full speed when turned on. I suspect the pot turned by the speed knob is bad. Having trouble locating a replacement circuit board.

Try placing some "braces" rubber bands around the shafts of the beaters. This should tighten the hold of the shaft with the mixer and keep them more straight.

Sunbeam Mixmaster Heritage Series Model 2350 speed problem

The speed control on the back is simply a variable resistance potentiometer, the same thing that controls the volume on older amplifiers. The output current to the motor is supplied by the printed circuit board in the bottom of the unit. This allows gradual increases in speed to avoid over-torquing the motor on speedup. Even the poshy-posh-posh mixers do this.

At least it still works. The most common problem is the cheap plastic drive gears that strip out with a mild cookie dough, this jams the beaters together and requires burial-at-dumpster.

Sunbeam mixer

When you open it, there is are contact points and a piece that has to touch to change the speed. It may just be slightly bent or out of place. Some food may have gotten in there.
