I have the exact same problem and absolutely no idea what to do. It has not been used for 7 months as I have been abroad in this period.

    Worked perfect before that

After years without problems I installed a eurodocsys (UPC) unit and reconnected the cables. After a few minutes a loud "blow" blocked the TH-A24 and came into the "protection" state.

No solution found yet. Fuses (4 in total) seems to be OK. Reset didn't help.

No resistors replaced yet. No burned-out resistor found!

The most logical solution that I could find is that when you leave the dvd player plugged into the wall it is still runnning and therefore doesn't cool down very well. when you turn it on it's already trying to stop the overheating so turns off automatically. if you unplug it whenever you're not using it you should have no problem.

Hello Protection Samsung HT-DS900

When your home theater's display reads PROTECTION, it means the home theater is over heating and the unit will shut down to prevent any damage. This can happen if the unit is stacked along with other electronic devices or the unit is in an enclosed area that prevents the unit from cooling properly. To decrease the chance of overheating, relocate your home theater to a more open area.

If the home theater display reads PROTECTION every time you turn it on, no matter where or how the unit is placed, it needs service. To set up service call Samsung Customer Care at 1-800-SAMSUNG (1-800-726-7864). Have your model number and serial number on hand to set up service.

Take every single cable out of the unit, now power on the unit.

If the power protection still shows then there is an internal fault, usually a short or a component defect.

If it powers on ok, switch off and insert 1 speaker at a time and power on the unit until the protection mode comes on again, the last speaker you have put in has overloaded it for some reason, also as you are trying each speaker use the volume and bass controls to see if there is an internal overload.

Thats as much as I can offer you until you narrow the fault down to the unit or one of the speakers.

Protection displayed and shuts off

The protect message indicates that the output amp section has a problem. Normally this requires the replacement of the output transistors or the output amp pac. Expect the repair cost to be about $20-$60 for parts plus the local labor rate.
