check the battery...maybe the amp hours is not
sufficient...not original recommended battery....inconsistency in starting...the solenoid is a switch...which may need cleaning....the starter motor may be full of carbon dust....causes a short to earth and pulls battery power on startup....a big neglected area in car maintenance...
if the car sat for two years and was never started.... the motor could very well be seized.... to get at the starter .... is usually done from the bottom. If you can removed the starter... test it to see if it's working.... something else you can try if you can see the starter ... is to tap it gently with a hammer while someone attempts to start it...
