Hi Faster Fester. You don't need to install the new BIOS.

You get the checksum error just because you're CMOS battery have run out. Just try to replace the CMOS Battery and you're problem will be solved.

Grydor.

Could be lots of things. First check you power supply, then memory. See if any of the components are getting very hot (be careful not to burn yourself). From there it will be kinda hit and miss till you find what is wrong. May be easier to look for a compatible motherboard on ebay.

Cmos resetting

Ok so you know the bat is good cause you checked the voltage. You double checked the bios jumper making sure it is not set to clear. Looking in your manual you can go to AMD XP3200+, & you are under that. So either you have a short or your bios needs flashed because it's messed up. Could have went when the cpu died.

M7NCD ULTRA raid drivers

If the SATA drive is operating in 3.0 Gbps mode and your motherboard can only support 1.5 Gbps mode, the drive will not be detected in BIOS or XP. Try jumpering the drive to SATA 1.5 Gbps mode. The label on your hard drive should indicate which pins should be shorted to achieve this setting; if not, look up your particular model on WD's website to find the manual.
