Hi Faster Fester. You don't need to install the new BIOS.

You get the checksum error just because you're CMOS battery have run out. Just try to replace the CMOS Battery and you're problem will be solved.

Bios damaged

You are fortunate that your BIOS has a built-in recovery procedure. However, you will need a working floppy drive to recover the damaged BIOS.

Do you know what BIOS microcode you're using? Specifically, do you have an Award, AMI, or Phoenix BIOS? (Or some other one?)

Award, AMI, and Phoenix all have different procedures for recovering the BIOS. Once you know which one you have, search Google for "XXXX BIOS recovery" (Where XXXX is Award, AMI, or Phoenix).

Typically, the procedure includes placing a BIOS file onto a floppy, renaming it to a specific name (like AMIBOOT.ROM) and inserting that floppy into the drive.

Need to reset phoenix bios on toshiba A215-s5825. Bios password has been set by accident. Backdoor passwords do not work, and removing battery from the motherboard did not work. Please...

If there's a shorting terminal in your mobo for reset BIOS PW short it with its shorting pins then check it out again if PW is cleared from BIOS.

Phoenix i can

What is your bios version number? And, what kind of motherboard/computer? Depending on the version you may be able to use software to reset the password using a boot disk, Otherwise you will need to open up the computer and remove the cmos battery. It looks just like a watch battery, just larger. Unplug the computer, remove the battery, then push the power button, let computer sit for 5 minutes or so and then replace battery. This may or may not work, just depends on your bios version and motherboard. I will look into it more for you when I get this info.

Hi, You have to configure your CMOS/BIOS. On powerup, press "Del" or whatever key is necessary to enter CMOS/BIOS Setup. Once inside, verify that 1.44 FDD is enabled/checked that is if your PC has got one and set to None if none, thereafter Save & Exit. Verify also that the FDD is connected to a power connector from the PC's power supply. Likewise check that the flat cable is securely connected. It the FDD shows a continuous light, it may be that the flat cable was wired/connected wrong, if this is the case, simply reverse the way it is connected to the rear of the FDD. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
