High Frequency Noise

Most sets if this: it is a transformer on the power board--we usually open and listen to locate this--on occasion we use a microphone and a scope for this.

Cure is either replace the entire board or in some cases if locate to one part use hot glue to mute the noise.

It is being caused by a transformer that is vibrating hard enough to make the sound-part is not bad in usual sense of the word but is not pleasing to hear.

As with all products that contain a digital display, in rare instances, when viewing certain content (e.g.. television broadcasts, video games, DVD), you may notice that the sound and picture are slightly out of sync. This phenomenon can be caused by various factors including, without limitation, video processing within the TV, video processing in an attached gaming system, and video processing/different compression rates used by broadcasters in their programming. You may want to try one or more of the following suggestions, which may help to reduce the effect of this phenomenon:
  • If the TV is connected to an external A/V device (e.g., DVD player, video game system, set-top-box, etc.) always try to use the Color Stream video jacks and corresponding audio jacks or the HDMI input (if available on your TV) for connection to such external A/V device.

  • If the TV is connected to an A/V receiver that has a programmable audio delay feature, use this feature to help synchronize the sound to the picture.

  • If connected to a video game system and your TV has the Game Mode feature (see owner's manual for more information), enable this feature.

  • If you notice this phenomenon only on certain TV channels, please contact your local broadcast, cable, or satellite provider to inform them of this issue.

Picture is distorted on my toshiba 42h83 audio is perfect. started with this problem slowly and was able to correct by switching between tv/video selections. Now picture is distorted all the time.

Distorted in what way WAVEY? there is a problem in the past with 11 very small capacitors that can cause this did it help when it warmed up? The trouble is these capactors can be replaced. but it take someone whe can do very difficult solder called surface mount. i do maybe 2 a month its very labor intensive i am not saying this is the prblem but this set does have that history

Distorted sound

Poor signal or poor connection to the cable probably. Could also be a speaker issue or the audio board on the tv is failing.

Most likely just poor signal or poor connection on the cable.

Cant get dtv on my toshiba regza

Does it work with a DVD or VCR?
How is it connected? With a Coax cable or a an RCA component cable? Check that the correct video source is selected (The one associated with the input you are connected with) or that you are tuned to the correct channel on the TV if you are using the coaxial cable to connect. Could be channel 3 or 4 but I have seen them set for channels like 73.

Toshiba 56HM195 56 in HD DLP Loud Buzzing and color distortion

If the sound, sounds more like a Hum with some vibration chances are the Cooling fan located behind the lamp is going bad, about $20 to repair, if its a high pitch hum most likely the Color Wheel and if thats the case about $30.
Good luck, my fan just went bad now seeing green dots everywhere, so debating on just junking it out or fixing it, with winter coming on might just breakdown and buy LCD and say the heck with DLP from now on.
Good luck to you..

DIstorted picture for 480p input only

Many set have two differant convergance settings one for 480 and one for1080 this is because when it changes mode the set runns a differant frequencys, what may have happened is you have a cold solder joint somewhere that takes this fifteen minutes to corect itself, might want to start by resoldering the convergance and high voltage curcuits

WAVY LINES AT STARTUP

This is a common sympton with those Toshiba projection sets. There is a board inside your set encased in metal shielding called the Hyper Board. There are many small surface-mount electrolytic capacitors on this board and some of them need to be replaced. Replacing surface-mount capacitors on a board that small is no easy task and should be done by an experienced tech.
