I have a Sony PSP that I bought about 1-2 years ago and I was looking for problems it might have or things I can do to make something stop working. The only reason I want to do this is because i want to utilize the extra warranty bought from Best Buy! Anyone know of something that can go wrong or something I can do to use the Best Buy warranty - to get a New PSP?

when you say scanner do you mean laser that reads the umd?
you could replace the laser from one off ebay but the thing with replacing lasers is that adjusting the laser so it reads the disk it tricky
here is a shop that repairs lasers in psps http://www.ipaqrepair.co.uk/ipaqpart1418.html
or if you want to do it your self http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-PSP-2000-Slim-Original-UMD-Laser-Lens-Repair-Parts_W0QQitemZ290386195846QQcategoryZ127746QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D11%26ps%3D63
also you say it is 1 year old from brand new? bought from the shops call sony as it may just be under warenty
Sticking on an analog stick is a very common thing on a PSP. If you have bought it within a year and haven't tampered with it, send it back to Sony. They will fix it free of charge. If it's outside of the 1 year warranty, you could always open the system and clean it out yourself. But I don't recommend this unless your warranty is up. Let me know if you need more information on doing it yourself.
I fixed It Thank You Almighty God in Heaven I have the solution... All I did was take a cotton swab and rub it against the lensn it didnt even need any alcohol or windex hahahahahaha try it . It worked for me. I goin to play, later :)
Same with my PSP. My son accidentally broken a spring sensor for the UMD when you close the UMD cover of the PSP. That's why the drive doesn't recognize if there's a UMD.
Sony Service Center here in the Philippines doesn't have a replacement part for this.
