My Blackberry Pearl does the same thing, usually when I have it in my pocket. It is locked. I have already returned one phone within the 30 day trial and now the new one is doing the same thing. I have to re-seat the battery to get it to restart. What is causing this? Is it the on off on the top of the phone? i don't want to go thru the restore stuff you suggest as i am novice and don't want to destroy my warranty. they told me that i had to return the phone to factory if it happens again... :-| please advise if there is another update or reason for this happening.

    Thanks.

Ive heard of this issue with windows based devices but its not as common with blackberries. you either have A) software corruption, or B) a bad battery.

to really test either is to get another battery and try it with that, if you continue to have the problem, do a master reset to free up your software corruption. you can back up the info first to avoid loosing everything, and the issue shouldnt transfer back over when you restore.

to do that, download desktop manager and go to backup and restore...select backup and save that file to your desktop.

when your done, go to options, security options, general settings, menu, wipe handheld.....type blackberry, hit the enter key. once your phone is turned on after a few mins, go back to desktop manager and then go to restore...if you continue to have an issue, youll need new software. contact your wireless provider on where to go for that....you will need their sw in order for the phone to work properly with their services.

Phone shuts off after couple minutes.have to turn on all the time.

Hello there,

The reason the phone shuts off after a couple of minutes is simply because the battery is failing at regular intervals. First check if the phone is not set on auto shut down.

Some times if the phone works for over a while it tends to turn off itself in order to rest for a while.

Then if that is not the problem then it means the battery is not making proper contact with the metal rod in the phone.

What you need to do is to pad up the battery properly so it will seat well in the phone. That will stop the problem of the phone going off on its own.

Hope this was helpful.
Goodluck

I've had the phone now for about 3-4 yrs. A couple of days ago, it started shutting off and immediately back on all by itself (rebooting), whether it's in my holder or lying on the table. The battery...

it could be more then one solution here.
maybe ur battery is low on power (irrelevant of charging)
maybe ur battery is worn out(3-4 years is quite the time)
maybe ur battery's contacs spikes are damaged (try to clean them with pure alchohol)
if it goes well, contact me!!

IPhone 3G shuts off by itself

Try replacing the battery. Also check to make sure that the battery itself is secure and can't move within the phone casing.

Lg versa shuts itself off couple of times a day

There is a shock sensor in the phone and any slight jarring will turn it off to protect the circuitry (if you drop it good)... it may be annoying but it is a decent feature.
