Same problem with my 46" ( HL-S4676S ). I have read elsewhere it may be the DMD board? Wish I had a solution for this. Look forward to hearing if anyone can solve this. BTW don't think I'll be buying anymore Samsung products.

Similar problem but I have white vertical lines running across the screen. See pic. I hate this television. over the few years I've gone through 1 total replacement (after 3 months under warranty), 3 lamps, one new motherboard thing. And now this. Hoping I don't just have to throw it out.

I have the line problem as well. This will be my third major repair in 3 years. 1st the bulb went, Color wheel went last month and now these black lines. Model # HLP-5063. I think this will be my last samsung purchase if I can't find simple resolution.

CS-35303 tv picture reduced down to a line horizontally through screen

The set weighs a ton so getting inside is first challenge.

Problem is in vertical circuit--9 out of ten times bad solder connections on the vertical output IC---usually if rapped on the cabinet the picture may try to open up.

The chip will have a location number like IC301 or 401 and if memory serves me be a LA7845 with that or a similar LA number right on the front.

If get to it only 7-13 pins (depends which chip is used) in a straight row--look at the solder connections on them--if find any that look a little discolored or even cracked solder all the pins.

picture of what a typical chip looks like:

the actual number will be right on the face of the chip12_21_2012_9_31_45_pm.jpg

How to repair and locate vertical ic on apex tv

See attached photo of a typical chip--usually one row of pins (single in line package) and has the Generic part number right on the front--with the number on yours you can Google a pin out which will show what pins are voltage in, output etc.

Some are ones with two rows of pins staggered and offset.

Locate it also by looking for it to be attached to a metal plate for cooling--also when replacing it the white heat transfer grease on the back of it must be replaced with fresh grease--the white heat sink kind used in computers and electronic equipment of all kinds.

Not a bad idea if you had foldover on top of picture to look at the filter caps right around the chip--one will be a feedback cap--usually a 220uf or higher (uf is microfarad and the cap will have two pins with one a plus and the other a negative marked on them--if that cap is open the set will have nearly a full picture but have folded over lines at top of screen---if that fails it shortly gets the chip.

This is a typical one and yours will likely differ in the number of pins--7-13 pins is normal.

Rows of Lines across top of screen

I decided not to repair, but use the 16:9 feature on the remote control.
a kind of letterbox look, not bad at all.

I'n not going to spend money, replacing the vertical output ic circuit's bad capacitor or vertical power supply for bad cap.

Sound, but no picture

Locate vertical output IC = solder all pins = two off-set rows,
then try again................part location IC301 , or 401 ?

2) possible bad CRT = turn up screen voltage slightly = did pix pop back on ?..................................T.

Please rate this solution.........................
