Question about Toshiba TP50G60 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Picture goes out when floor jars the TV.

I have a 10 year old Toshiba Theaterview. When the floor is jarred a little bit, the picture diasappears...just black. The picture tries to flicker back on when jarred again. especially by the circuitboard where the video plugs from the cable box plug in.

I have a similar problem. There is a black rectangular box across approx. 1/4 of the picture. It does not appear until the tv in on a station for a couple of seconds. It almost looks like a black menu box, but I can not get it to go away.

I have the same issue, while watching tv it will go black. Sometimes if you pause the DVR it will come back on, if not you have to change the tv channel then change it back to 04 to get the cable to work. We are also getting a scratchy/fuzzy noise/screen almost like an antenna issue lately. This Theaterview is 11 years old and has worked great but now we are starting to have issues with it. Any other advise?

Check for bad solder connections around where the tuner attaches to the chassis. Look for cracks with a magnifying glass solder should appear shiny with no circular cracks.

TV turns off then on again every 5-15 please!

It sure sounds like a solder connection opening up after the set warms up enough. If that was the problem you should be able to get it to ace up by jarring it with the palm of your hand. (Don't get carried away and hurt yourself or the set). If jarring the set gets it to cut off, I can't imagine why the repair shop couldn't find the problem. If another shop is nearby, authorized or not, you may want to give them a try. If no amount of jarring the set will get it to act up, then it could very well be not worth repair due to the amount of time that would be needed to localize the circuit that is intermittent.
