With years of use, you will collect a layer of "micro dust" on the impeller (the fan part) which reduces the efficiency. A toothbrush and some mild cleaner with gently scrubbing will restore it's power.
The impeller is that parts that spins that you can see when you take the top off to fill the water tank.
Hope this is the answer that you need!

Is the water seal in place or missing? Another cause would be a bad motor, running at a slower speed will mean low suction. If it is a motor, then you would have to replace it. Is the suction low at machine without the hose, if it is ok then may be a clog in the hose.

My rainbow E2 will run on High speed, but not the low speed.it's as if no power is getting to it,when.you try to switch it on low,but works fine on high

This could be one of two problems. It could be your switch is broken, preventing it from going to low speed. Try clicking it, does it still make a distinctive click sound, does it feel loose? If so it may be your switch: Rainbow e2 power switch
Otherwise if may be your computer in your E2 is starting to go bad. Often times if Rainbow stops going into one of the speeds it is due to a computer going bad. This is an expensive part and repair, so you should probably take it in and make sure it is the computer. Rainbow E2 controller 120v

The equipment does not start and a strangeous sound is heard when you try to start it and then nothing is heard.

  • I can guess that it is a burn out motor . Lift the top off of the basin where the water goes and look at the bottom of it. There you will see the separator and this turns when it is running. Turn on the machine just for 5 to 7 seconds to see if the separator is turning and by what your telling me it may turn for a second and then stop. This is a seized motor and it is mostly due to age on vacuums but with the rainbow they also have condensation getting in there so it can happen even quicker. If you did not take the separator apart everything you finished vacuuming then it had condensation on it for along time after you finish vacuuming and we all know what happens to metal when we get it wet and let it sit.....that's right RUST! It may not be all visible but it rusts up inside where it is seized. If in fact it is seized then you are looking at getting a new motor and depending on the age of your rainbow you may want to just move on and get something newer with more suction as they do not have the suction that the new machines have today with all the improvement they have made in the last five years....cyclonic action etc.
  • Thanks for the question and good luck.
  • Please try to remember to give me a good rating if this was helpful info. Thanks again.

Need to replace clips that hold motor to the basin on Rainbow vacuum

There are small brass colored pin going through the latch half way between the upper portion and lower portion, where it is attached to main body of the Rainbow. Take a small nail or dowel put it directly on one end of the brass pin and tap till it comes out. Put the new latch where the old one was and insert the pin till it stops. Then tap slowly so as it pushes though the other side you can line up the hole. When the pin is flush, you are done.

Rainbow vacuum-water not spinning

Remove hose and turn on the unit with nothing on the intake - see if it helps - feel the suction with hand.

a) If it works fine without the hose - look for a clog in the hose, wand or the nozzle

b) If the suction is weak even without the hose:
Clean the separator,
If this is e-series or E2 Rainbow - remove HEPA and try vacuuming without it (sometimes it is too dirty so stops good airflow). New HEPAs HERE.
If this is SE Rainbow - remove exhaust cap and if there is a sponge - take it out

Still no luck - It has to be serviced

Good Luck,
Rocky

Need to install rainbow side water pan latch and spring. How to do it?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Rainbow E Series Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum. The Rainbow latch can be replaced but I believe it is a pop rivet that holds and replaces the old latch and to replace the new latch, I have seen it done but if you don’t have the right tools you may want to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area, it can be done. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

The Rainbow / RexAir Factory phone number is listed below:

Low suction

Is the suction low at the tank after you disconnect the hose? If it is strong there, then the hose may be clogged. You can unhook the hose from the wands to see if you have suction or not. If you do, then look further down all the way to the brush roll. The other possible is if no clogs, check the filters, on the E series, there is a filter on the back, there is some also had one in the top and you would have to take it apart to get to it. One other is that the motor is not running at top speed and may have to be replaced. It can sound ok, but will have reduced suction. If you suspect the motor, check your owner manual, some of these newer ones had a long warr. period on the motor.

It sounds fine but it is sucking very little

If the suction at the port that the hose hooks into has low suction, then most likely you have a problem with the motor. Some of these Rainbow motors sound ok running, but are running at a slower speed, thus reducing the suction and replacing the motor is the solution.

Rainbow D3C Low suction

You might check the carbon brushes on the motor, it could be that the motor is not running fast enough, which would mean replacing the motor. With the hose off, do you have good suction where the motor goes into the vac? If it is good there, then either the powerhead isn't working or the hose is clogged.
