On you laptop you should see and icon on one of the buttons(it is probably blue) that looks like a tv screen. Hit the control key + the screen icon and it should change the ouput to the tv screen.

My toshiba 32DTIU has sound but no video

The "Toshiba 32DT1U" is a 32" class 720p 60Hz LCD TV.
Other than checking the connections, and making sure that you don't have a headphone port with a cable plugged into it,
I don't think there is much consumers can do with recent date manufactured LCD TVs, as far as repairs go.
Hopefully helpful,

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705. I need to connect it to my 20" LCD TV to watch NetFlix. I don't know what I'm doing. I have an A/V cable with S-Video and a 1/8" Stereo Male to Dual RCA...

On my laptop it is f4 key and it controls the windows operating system screen mode so windows has to be running . Also suggest you turn off the p.c and plug in the tv cable to the svideo and then go to the tv and change the input source to the cable input. Then turn on the computer and hopefully it might detect the cable is active and switch to it automatically.
Sarah if you provide us (being all of fixya) with the make of tv and model number as well as the make and model number of the computer we may be able to figure it out in a more detailed analysis of your predicament.

I have a Gateway T-6330u and want to connect it to the TV to watch a movie, but I don't know how to do this. I searched the web and found I may need a HDMI cable, but I don't know if there are...

If your TV has a VGA input or the laptop and TV have HDMI run the cable over choose the correct input on the TV "pc or hdmi" my asus auto detects the hdmi stream you may have to right click on the desktop go into video setting and choose the TV.

HDMI cables are actually wonderfully simple to connect. Once you have connected one end to the TV and one end to the DVD player, you will simply need to change your input channel using your TV's remote. Find a Input or Video source button and press it until the screen says HDMI. Now your TV may have several HDMI ports so you may have to try a couple HDMI channels before you find the right one.

Hope that helps!

A VGA cable. Also know as a 15 pin D-SUB.tech_av_0.jpg
Once you have connected the laptop to the plasma - you may need to activate the external monitor on your laptop. How to do this is dependent on your laptop manufacturer and the Operating system you are running ie Windows XP, Mac OSX.
An example of the function key and which F key to press is shown below.tech_av_1.jpg

I'll tell you what I did to a cable like that on an old mower of mine, if you promise not to laugh at an old ****. I cut my cable shorter and fashioned a little bushing out of some small weedeater fuel line, so the edge of the hole on the lever wouldn't wear on the cable, and crimped a small cable clamp in the position I wanted and was back in action. Hope this helped, don't laugh, and best wishes.

I am assuming you connect to your LCD TV with VGA or DVI cable?

You may also have to press Fn+F5 (or some other combo) to enable the vga/DVI out on your computer. You may also have to change the resolution for the secondary display (the TV)
