Question about Gigabyte GA-8S648-L Motherboard

1 Answer

Switches on but doesn't load.

My motherboard's been having a few problems.
It started when I had a power cut. The machine was switched off but pluged in. When the power was restored it didn't beep and fire up straight away. I had to turn it off and on a couple of times.
It then started up ok but it had loaded default BIOS.
This was fine until I had another power out. Now it won't recover. I've changed the battery and unplugged practically everything from the board apart from memory and hd. Still no joy.... any ideas?
Powers up, runs drive check nothing more.

-take out the ramm dimms, than put them back.
I guarantee you this helps.and do it with the power cable out of the power supply
-make a bootable cd with a new bios  form the manufacturers site and under dos mode rewrite the bios.This is to be done in case you didnt manage to solve it with the ramm dims.
good luck..bye bye

The LED in my motherboard is on, but if i turn on the switch, their is no response. the power connection is correct. but it doesn't work

Try swapping the power button connection with the reset button connection. Then to turn on your computer you will need to press the reset button. If that works you have a faulty power button. Otherwise try using a different PSU. One that you know works. If that doesn't help the motherboard will have to be replaced.

My computer doesn't start power supply checked - ok connection checked - ok

Hi There,

Firstly, disconnect everthing from the Power supply EXCEPT the motherboard

1. Does the fan on the CPU spin when switching on?

Double check power switch connections to motherboard, sometimes if connected incorrectly, it may stop the board from powering up.

2. Attach the PC speaker to motherboard and remove RAM, REMEMBER to follow all antistatic rules when doing anything inside the computer.
Switch machine on and listen if it makes a sound. if it does then the motherboard is fine.

Have you recently fitted the board yourself?, if so make sure it is not earthing on to the casing.

Try these first and let me know how you go.

I have an Abit IC7-G motherboard. Machine has died with no reaction from pressing power on and reset buttons. Power cable in is OK and when connected, green light behind IDE1 socket lights up (which says...

Most obvious problem would be the power supply. The green LED only indicates that the 5V rails os working enough to power the on/off circuit on the motherboard. First disconnect everything except the mother board from power supply. Then try switching on again. If this does not work, then disconnect the power connectors from the motherboard. ON the big power connector (P1) there should be a green wire with two black wires either side. This is the power on sensor wire. Use a paper clip or similar bit if wire to short out the green wire with one of the black wires. This should start the power supply and the fan in the PSU should spin. If this does not work then the PSU is definately faulty. If it switches on when there is no load connected then it is probably only slightly faulty (not able to provide sufficient current). Since the green LED is coming on, my guess is that you have bad capacitors in the PSU (they will probably have domed tops instead of flat). Try a power supply from another PC if possible.

Motherboard shuts off

You may want to try using another power supply rated at 300W plus. Also make sure your RAM is unbuffered and non-ECC. To set the switch correctly, you need to goto look at the exact model number of the CPU. Because CPU with similar marketing name could have different front side bus speed.

One more thing to look for, make sure there is no metal standoff sticking out of the bottom of the case shorting out the mother board. But my first guess is the power supply.

L7vmm mb. display went out. Monitor works on

Dear User. to plug in the AGP card you dont need to check or see the CMOS. if u have pluged an AGP card and problem still persist then the problem is at *********** side or in RAM. just plug out RAM and other hardware except Processor and cables of switches. the switch on it and if it gives beep then your motherboard and processor is OK. there would be problem in your RAM so change RAM. and if it dont give the beep at startup then the problem is in your motherboard or power supply.
