Quick question. Are you using a straight through or crossover cable to
connect the router to the dsl modem?

Howdy!
As a followup - have you gotten it to work yet?
Didn't mean to sound insulting (if I !DID!) by saying
"Triple-check". Or, as one of my friends puts it in the handout to new
employees where he's the IS department - "Trippl-chke the passwrod" <grins>
(Yes, that's actually what he puts. To bring home the very REAL possibility
that it could be a simple typo causing the lack of access ... )

Read my post a few days ago. The D-Link tech rep told me there is
problem in 10% of this model and they are writting a patch for it
(don't know when or never). I have returned the 'defective' router to
the store and exchanged for a printer instead. I think I will go for
another brand of router next time.
Don't know if your router is also 'defective'.
Here is my original post:
Doesn't anyone have problem with D-Link DI604 cable/DSL 4-port router
or Terapro modem too?
Talked to D-Link tech support tonight, after trying for a few days to
get this router to work with Terayon Terapro cable modem (my ISP is
Rogers in Toronto, Canada). The rep told me this model has problem in
about 10% of them; didn't specify the problem. Told me they are
writing a patch for it but no release date; it may take months or just
a lie to get me off the phone.
Is there anyone know there may be a way to fix this problem without
waiting for the patch?
I will try get my ISP to swap another modem of different brand to see
if it will work with the router. The modem works OK in a straight
connection with PCs, it just doesn't work with this router. This
router's LAN seems to work OK though; haven't yet use it much.
Here are the things I've tried:
different NICs/cables/OS installations (win98)
reboot/reset (router/modem/PCs)
winipcfg/release all/renew all
disable firewalls/proxy/etc.
check all router configurations
upgraded firmware
Problems:
No sign of internet.
Ping internet, no response.
Ping router 192.168.0.1/PCs 192.168.0.xxx/localhost 127.0.0.1 all OK.
All NICs work OK with direct modem connection.
Any suggestion or info is greatly appreciated. Really would like to
get this router working to enjoy its various excellent features.
Thank you.

You need to configure the router first.
Open your browser and in the url box type: http://192.168.0.1/
Click Basic, Setup. Set WAN Type to " PPP over Ethernet"
Enter your username and password
Select "Auto re-connect"
Click "Save", and let the router reboot.
RTFM

Howdy!
Triple-check the username AND password.
Also, with one customer, I had to set it to the other choice from
"Dial on Demand" for it to work here in BellSouth land.

He should just use the cable that came with the modem... which he probably
is.
It sounds to me like there is a problem with the gateway/router/toaster
config. There should be some config util that will list the DHCP client
table. It's likely that the router isn't yet aware of the Linux box. It
took me a fair few tries before I got mine visible to the router.
OP -- how is the router configured? Is it through Windows software?
