Kelvinator fridge water puddle each morning

I have a Kelvinator side by side fridge/freeze rmodel NE63OT that leaks a small puddle about once a week. I have checked the drain pan and it is fine. However there is a build up of ice on the floor of the freezer which appears to be blocking the vent at the back of the freezer, which I assume is where the defrosted ice drains to. I have cleared the ice by defrosting with a hairdryer and then the problem doesn't occur until about three weeks when i all starts again. What would be causing the build up of ice?

    regards

Model - No Frost - 640 - ice on floor pan of freezer section an almost identical in that there is a puddle each week - i will defrost and remove the ice on thje floor plan and remoive the block of ice at the rear of the unit and look to see if the drain hole is blocked - where is the drain hole located? - i assume on the right hand rear section as this is where the most ice is located.....James Camilleri - Kew

The defrost cycle in the freezer melts the ice each day and the resulting water drips out of the freezer compartment through a short pipe and in my Kelvinator 520F it drips into a small funnel in the fridge section right under the short pipe from the freezer. In my case that was behind the chiller section. The small funnel clips into the back wall and directs water into a concealed pipe that empties the water on top of the compressor where the heat will evaporate it. In my case the small funnel was clogged with old frozen debris from the bottom of the freezer. The funnel overflowed into the fridge section and then onto the floor. It was very hard to see if you didn't know what to look for.
The inner floor and back wall of the freezer can be unclipped,(there was one screw) which revealed where all the spillages had gone over the last 10 years. Yuk. Job for the vac.
Put the funnel back in and tip a small quantity of water into the drain in the back of the freezer, watch it come out on top of the compressor/motor. If it doesn't freely flow then the pipe is also blocked. Try the vac to unclog it. If it doesn't flow freely then the funnel will overflow for sure so you will have to find another way to clear the concealed drain pipe. Maybe wire or compressed air.

Good luck

The freezer defrosts every day. the puddle is from that. It is supposed to go into a pan at the bottom and evaporate. You need to look at the pan and determine if it has a hole or the drain hose is leaking somewhere.

Ice buildup in bottom of freezer--puddle of water on floor

this sounds like your freezer is operating properly, except that the drainage of the water when going through the defrosting mode is not draining properly, pooling on the bottom of the freezer and then freezing. Check the drainage hose for the defrost in the lower pan. I would remove everything, place in ice chest, let the unit completely thaw out and then inspect. I hope this is beneficial.

COMPRESSOR WILL FREEZE A CYCLE OR 2 THEN STOP WORKING

a symptom of low refrigerrant is that the evaporator coil will develop a small very cold area but wont cool the entire surface .. that cold area can ice up and block air flow .. the result can be an overworked compressor with little or no cooling ... other things that can cause the same trouble
1. bad or blocked air flow on the external coils or condenser fan ..
2. a leak in the door seal will allow moisture that can cause icing

if there is icing then you can turn it off with the door open until the ice melts .. then start over ..
