Question about JVC AV-56WP74 56" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

After replacing stk392-110 convergence chips

I did an auto convergence, and everything seems to line up but the red is blurry. When I go into the manual convergence the red line is about 4 times the thickness of the others. Any ideas what could cause this?

SYNC M: OK S: NG HD: NG

    AIO NG 9 YC OK

    Any thoughts?

Behind your front panel is two rows of small black knobs that adjust the lamps brightness and focus. a phillips screwdriver might be needed to turn them. you need to adjust the red guns focus.

Screen is a little blurry and can not seem to get color just right

Projection TV sets have two very common problems oulined below.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • No Audio/Video - TV Makes Chirping Sound

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

Rca big screen 5-8 years old, power shut off this morning while watching then when I powered it back up now blurry and has a red and green outline around everything onscreen

If you have the original remote to that tv, click on menu, then select set up from the on screen menu, then select convergence. you might see auto convergence as well as manual for blue and red convergence.

If you see Auto, select it, this will line up your tubes.

If no auto convergence, you will have to select each one, and follow the instructions to aline your tubes.

Tv was blurry them turned off and wont come back on and the red light on front blinks

The blurry must be defined as out of convergence or out of focus,If there is a lines of color on the pictures edges, its convergence, if the picture is not sharp the focus is the problem. The common cause of convergence problem is the convergence drive chip(stk) and might be the cause of shutdown too.The focus problem is commonly contributed by the projector lenses, in most cases the coolant liquid leaks and drip on the board, this causes shutdown too.The lenses must check first for any leak before the replacement of IC(stk).

JVC AV-56WP74 self check question

Each picture tube (red, green, blue) has a magnifying lens assy that sits on top. On each lens assy is a manual focus adjustment with a wing nut that tightens it. The image bounces onto the mirror and shoots it onto the front screen. If you're not a technician then I don't advise you to do this adjustment. You could touch something in the high voltage by accident.
