Network connection problems

I have a wlg-1101 wireless network card and I can't get connected to the internet. The green light is on like I am connected but I can't open internet explorer.

    I have a Wireless LAN PCI 802.11g card with RTL8185L chipset and using Windows 2000 pro. I cannot not connect to the internet. When computer boots up I get a red X through the icon on the trask bar. I was able to connect once but when I rebooted I keep getting the red X.

    I have a sony vaio with vista 32 and suddenly this problem overtook the wireless system... no media connected, no internet around, try with a cable... I have even found this problem back in 2007, with sony vaio techis giving no clue as to what has happened. In another forum, someone pointed out that the latest wireless driver was the cause of this, advising to revert to another previous version. Maybe, except that I did not update the drivers to cause this.

    After the problem occured, I updated the drivers to oct-2008, pretty recent version. I would think that by now there would be a fix for this problem in the latest driver, but no. Maybe it is not a driver problem.

Wi-Fi Internet is a popular and convenient way of accessing web pages and other online applications. A wireless router broadcasts an Internet signal, which enables a computer with a wireless capability to access online applications and sites. Problems with wireless connections require a different approach to troubleshooting than traditional, wired Internet connections. If you find that the wireless connection on your laptop frequently drops out, take a few troubleshooting steps to narrow down the issue and restore your laptop's full functionality.

Reset your network by unplugging the power cords of your Internet modem and wireless router. Wait 30 seconds before replugging the power cords. Restarting your computer will allow the devices to run through their full boot cycle. Test your connectivity after rebooting to verify whether it remains more consistent after the reset. Test your wireless Internet consistency on another Wi-Fi connection that you're legally allowed to use, such as a free public Wi-Fi hotspot. If the connection stays consistent when you're away from home, the problem is likely localized to your home wireless network. If the connection drops no matter which wireless network you are connected to, the problem is more likely with your laptop's wireless card or internal wireless device. Connect the Ethernet cable directly from one of the numbered Ethernet ports on the wireless router to one of the Ethernet ports on your computer. This is a useful way of testing whether the Internet connection is dropping altogether or if your laptop is merely losing its wireless signal strength. I have a D-link DGS-1005G. I have two computers connected and a printer. The D-Link is also connected via LAN. I can obtain internet connection to each computer with wireless and the printer will not...


Hi, you have to set up your printer as a device that can be communicated in your LAN by the two PCs.

To set up your printer properly in the LAN, you need to assign a fixed IP to this printer such that whenever it is switch on again, both PC still communicate to this printer without changing the new IP assigned to this printer.

You need to set up this fixed IP properly in your DLink router. For guidance please check this in your user manual of the Dlink. Please let me know any problem you may have again in future.

I have installed my wireless router successfully, and the ethernet cable is still in my computer, when i take this out, i cannot connect to the internet, it says unknown network, but it does say i am...


This is an odd one. I'm assuming that the computers and laptops etc that you have, already have wireless connections (wireless dongles, wireless cards etc) installed.

I'm wondering if the firewall is preventing wireless connection, or that the router security settings need to be authenticated on the computers to access the device wirelessly (page 6)

Using Wi-Fi (802.11b)
Wi-Fi provides your device access to WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network.)
Short for wireless fidelity, Wi-Fi refers to any type of 802.11 network,
whether 802.11b, 802.11a, or dual-band. Wi-Fi certified products from
different manufacturers are interoperable.
NOTE: Mid and High configurations of the Axim have Wi-Fi 802.11b built in and the
drivers factory installed. For a Low configuration device, you must purchase the
802.11b SD card, insert it in your device, and load the drivers.
NOTE: The default Wireless Networking Client utility for your device is the
Dell WLAN utility. The following configuration steps are for the Dell WLAN utility.
Configure wireless networking for your device in one of the following
scenarios:
• Network Card is set up
• Wireless Network is broadcasting SSID
• Wireless Network is not broadcasting SSID
If the Network Card is Set Up
Normally the internal wireless card is already set up. There are times when
you must choose the network card. On the Axim X51/X51v configurations
that have built-in wireless, the network card is associated with the enabled
wireless. If wireless is not enabled or you are using a socket card for
wireless connection, then choose the network card:
1 Tap Start → Settings → Connections.
2 Tap Network Cards.
3 Choose either Internet or Work from the menu.
4 Choose the network card to connect to the network. For the
Axim X51/X51v with built-in wireless, choose Dell Axim X51/X51v
WLAN Wireless Adapter.
5 Choose whether the network card assigns an IP address or receives an
IP address automatically.
6 Enter the Server IP addresses if required and tap OK.
If the Wireless Network is Broadcasting SSID
1 Press the wireless button to enable wireless capability. The green LED
in the right top corner of the device indicates that the wireless
is functional.
2 Tap Start → Settings → Connections.
3 To add, edit, or delete a profile, select the corresponding action and
tap Network Cards.
4 In the Configure Wireless Networks window, select one of the available
network names and tap OK.

If the Wireless Network is Not Broadcasting SSID
The Configure Wireless Networks window only shows wireless networks
that broadcast a Network Name (SSID) and those that have been added.
Add the network if it is not listed. Contact your network administrator for
the following information:
• SSID (network name)
• Authentication
• Data Encryption
• Keys (if the key is not provided automatically)
• Log in if necessary
To configure the wireless network:
1 From the Configure Wireless Networks window, tap Add New.
2 Provide the Network Name (SSID).
3 Select either Internet or Work in the Connects To box.
• Selecting Internet allows you to connect to your network but you
will have to manually start a VPN connection, if needed.
• Selecting Work automatically starts a VPN connection any time
you connect to the network.
• If you are having trouble connecting to your network, change the
Connects To box to Internet.
4 Tap the Network Key tab.
5 Enter the Authentication and Data Encryption information. If a key is
required, enter the network key.
6 Select the 802.1x tab.
7 The Authentication and Data Encryption chosen on the previous
screen determines whether this screen is available. If available choose
the EAP type used on the network.
8 Tap OK.
9 If more than one network is listed, tap and hold the stylus on the
network name you want to connect to. A pop-up menu appears.
Tap Connect. After a few seconds you should see Connected next to
the wireless network you selected.

Card is green, wireless router is green , but no internet


r u c'in any message as limited r no connectivity in wireless connection,did u chk if u r able to go online wth the cable connection in ur laptop

PDA internet


You do not need the card slot for internet, you can put a memory card in there to store your data.
The PDA supports Wifi, so it is able to connect to a wireless network, as long as it is in range and it is allowed to access the network.
I don't know if you've got the manual. Anyway, you can find it here.
How to make a connection is explained in section 10, under 'Creating an ethernet connection'. I think a network card is already installed in your PDA.

You can manage email by using the pre-installed Microsoft Outlook. How to use this is also explained in the manual, in section 6.

Wireless connection problem


Hello:

Ok...I am a bit confused. You must have a modem to connect to the internet...whether you are broadband (cable/DSL/wireless), Dial-up or T-1 or higher (TSU/DSU).

This is how it should run once you are sure you have the modem...

Modem....to router...pc to router. If you have no router...then plug ethernet cable from your modem to your NIC card on PC.

You will have to make sure your network card is working (check for flashing green light and one solid green. Then you can goto COntrol panel and run the wizard to connect to the internet...it should work.

What kind of router do you have? Also, what is the model number of your modem?
