TV powered off without warning and fails to power back on (completely off--not in standby mode). Attempted to reset TV by leaving unplugged for several hours...nothing! TV is hardly ever used. Electrical outlet is fine and remotes are fine. Also fails to respond to power button on TV.
Was hooked up to cable and did have cable send a refresh signal to the modem (?) earlier in the day because the internet was not working (the wireless router was not synched with the modem) but this TV is not hooked up to the main box nor is it hooked up to the modem, so I highly doubt that it is related. Just including it just in case, as the power failed on TV a short time after the refresh signal was sent (maybe fifteen minutes).
Are you guessing or do you know? And do you know what would cause that? (I'm assuming some kind of failure with the TV itself because of the following: The TV was working fine and then all of a sudden it stopped working. The outlet works for other things and the TV won't work in any other outlet...even outlets that would meet the demands of this TV, as I attempted to plug it in where in place of my fifty something inch and still nothing. Thanks
Since I bought the TV more than 90 days ago, I will have to pay for it to be repaired. This may not be cost effective, so that is why I am asking. Are you guessing or do you know? To get your TV off standby mode, you can try the following steps:
Check the power source: Make sure that your TV is properly plugged into a working power outlet or surge protector.
Check the remote control: Press the power button on the remote control. Sometimes, the TV may be in standby mode due to a problem with the remote control. If the remote control is not working, try replacing the batteries or using a different remote.
Check the power button on the TV: If the TV does not turn on with the remote control, try pressing the power button on the TV itself.
Unplug and plug back in: Unplug the TV from the power source for at least 30 seconds and then plug it back in. This can reset the TV and may help to get it out of standby mode.
Check for a timer: Some TVs have a timer function that automatically puts the TV in standby mode after a certain amount of time. Check the TV settings to see if this feature is enabled.
If none of the above steps work, there may be an issue with the TV's hardware or software. In this case, it may be best to contact the manufacturer or a professional repair service for assistance.
Try unplugging the TV and leaving it unplugged for about 2-3 minutes. Plug the TV back in and make sure the StandBy light turns on. Try clicking the power button and see if the TV powers up. While you are at it, be sure to replace the batteries in your TV remote (if you are using one)... this could be why you cannot power the TV on.
The standby light on a Sony television indicates when the television is turned on and operating, or turned off and in "standby" mode. However, this light also serves a secondary function: indicating when there is a problem with the television by flashing. When the standby light begins to flash, there are two reset options that can be performed to resolve whatever issue it's indicating -- a power reset and a factory reset
POWER RESET
1. Turn off your TV
2. Unplug the television from the electrical outlet. If you're using a surge protector or power strip, disconnect the television from the strip itself. Only by disconnecting the power cord from the outlet can you ensure no power reaches the TV during the power cycle.
3. Leave the television without power for at least 60 seconds. This gives the television enough time for all components to power down during the power cycle
4. Plug the television back into the electrical outlet. If you're using a surge protector or power strip, plug the television directly into the wall outlet instead. The surge protector may otherwise interfere with the power-up cycle, especially if it is old or damaged.
5. Turn on the television. If the blinking standby light continues, you'll need to move on to the factory reset process.
FACTORY RESET
1. Turn on the television.
2. Press and hold either the "Reset" or up arrow button on the remote control.
3. Press and release the "Power" button on the front of the television, while keeping the "Reset" or up arrow button on the remote depressed.
4. Release the "Reset" or up arrow button.
5. Allow the television to reset after the "Reset" message appears on the screen.
6. Make no adjustments to the television for at least one minute after the reset has completed. This is to allow the television time to finish auto-configuration and initial set up.
7.Turn off the television and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
8. Wait ten seconds, then plug the television back into the electrical outlet and turn on the TV.
9. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete setup. These are the instructions displayed the first time you set up the television, for configuring channels, menu language, time, display properties and more.
unplug from power by removing cord
leave unplugged for 5min
hold power switch on side for 1min
let go, plug in set and power on
this completes a full reset and will likely solve this issue
good luck
It sounds like there`s a sort on the secondaries of the power supply. Before the power went off, did you ever turn the tv off by unplugging it?? In other words, did you turn the power off completely to the set or leaving it in standby?? if you always left it in stby, it will be the capacitors in the power supply, they dry out if the power is always on, so they will need replacing. If you did turn off the power, then I think you`ll find that the power cut had nothing to do with the fault you`ve got now, it will be the Line Output Stage which has failed or gone short circuit. Do a hard reset. Unplug it from the socket, the DVD and leave disconnected for 4 hours. This may or may not help, but it is a necessary step to restore all internal software codes to their factory settings.
Completely remove the battery and unplug the power cord for a few minutes. Reinsert battery and power up.
You can also hit F8 when starting and see if you can boot into safe mode.
