Question about Sony KP-61HS10 61" Rear Projection Television

Sony KP-61HS10 Rear projection TV blurry /shadows at first start

Sony KP-61HS10 Rear projection TV.
I purchased it new in 2001.
It has been showing several shadows at first start. It is very noticable as
the print on the guides and the description of the program has triple shadow.Makes it impossible to read.Picture is better as it warms-up
in about an hour.Slow process in reduced shadows as it warms up.
Still very happy with the picture as watching from a distance.Yet after an hour one noticable shadow remains with white to red lines on the object in close-up.
I cleaned the lenses and the reflector screen one a year.
Recently cleaned inside, but did not make a difference.
I am hoping someone may determine what else has to be done or which part needs to be replaced.
Thank you for your valuable time.

Yes pressing the focus button make it thru the auto convergence.

  • fantums Feb 09, 2008

When focus button is pressed three layers of colors appear. It

changes to one layer after 3-4 second adjustment/focus process is complete.

It does improve picture quality and shadows are reduced at first

start.Big difference compare to how it was before.

Now the outer lines of picture or the print object has red sometimes green shadow/line which moves in and out.So if the picture object is black,it shows green lines if the object is white

it shows red line/shadow on the outer side of the object.

This is more noticable when the guide is displayed on screen and the letters on the guide has red lines slowly filling

on the right side of the letters and slowly clear. This process

    Thank you

Thanks for the follow up.Picture is OK. and shadows are minimized after the Flash/Focus is pressed on and system cycles. But shadows come back after 2-3 minutes if the TV was recently turn on.When the TV has been on for an hour and flash/focus is pressed on it has a better/improved picture.

So the problem is when the tv has been recently turned on.

Flash/focus is always going thru convergence and doing it's process. Results are like how I described them on 02/09/08.

Which part do you think needs replacement?

Similar problem.. TV just went fuzzy one day. Tried to auto-focus it, but doesn't really change anything. Is clearer on the right side of the screen, but not much.. Has a slight redish hue on white text.. Any ideas? Something that I can fix?

Side note: even the tv's menu options are blurry.

I have a SONY rear projection 61 inch KP61HS10 bought in May 2001. I have Cable. About a year back, the picture became hazy and blurry. The colors run to the right side. Interesting thing is, the PIP window is perfect, no problems. I have been watching movies on the PIP window maximized. Input does not matter, DVD, VCR, cable all of them behave the same. The main picture is blurry, but if I put the same input to the PIP window, it is good. Unfortunately, PIP window can only be about 2/3 of the full screen.

Sounds like the convergence ic's need to be replaced or resoldered. Sometimes it can be a microfuse if you are lucky. But my question is if you hit the focus button up front does it make it thru the auto convergence? Let me know. Have a good one.

So, does the picture look fine now?

My kp61hs10 has the same problem. Press the focus button in the front panel gives good picture after the tv set being warm up for 30 min.
Turn the tv set off for several hours then disassemble the tv and remove the D board. All 4.7 ohm resistors and picofuses are verified by DMM. They all are functional. i replace the 2 stk ics anyway with new heat sink compound. Reassemble the tv set and power up. the problem is still there. What should i do next?

Picture very blurry with lines going accross screen

hi gud day! your problem has a solution. Just try to fix your tv from blurry picture. Pull the socket at hte back of the picture tube. remove the socket from pcb(printed circuit board) de solder the pins. then after that, if you see a 2 metal formed like a small mountain facing each other, try to clean those remove the rust (green color) using sander or any material you can use, just avoid using oil on that bcause it is sparking. then try to install it again and try to turn on your tv. if still not working replace that socket with a new one. you can buy it at any electronic supply store. and re install then on it again.. surely it will fix your tv without expensive components.

be sure unplugging the tv from ac souce before disassimbling...

Sony tv KP-61HS10 lenses wont align

This is common in those sets. One of your convergence IC's has stopped working and needs to be replaced. The convergence IC should be replaced and the convergence circuits realigned by someone with experience in Sony projection sets.
