Stay away from interfering with your watch. This is a job for the expert, that has the knowledge, the tools and years of experience behind him. Buy an old 'banger' of a watch for a few dollars and mess about with it. Dismantle a portion of it and then see if you can reassemble it wiyhout doing damage.

I say no . An appraisal you must show the item to see what condition it is in ,what it is made of, and the rarity of the piece. There are several web sites that will give you a price range for your watch. Ebay under antique pocket watches , will give you a good idea what pocket watches similar to yours is been sold for.
