De-branding a T-mobile phone

I would like to know how I can get this phone debranded so that I can use the Sim card out of my old phone. The phone is already un-locked from T-mobile.
I purchased this phone while I was in the US and now want to use it in Australia on the Optus network.

How do you do this (up-date T-mobile firmware)

  • crusty_69 Feb 10, 2008

I have tried it with my Optus Sim but when I turn the phone on it still has the T-mobile screen and it says "searching".

  • crusty_69 Feb 10, 2008

The GSM network in Australia uses 900/1800Mhz.

  • crusty_69 Feb 10, 2008

I checked with Optus and they said it should wor with both 900 and 1800 bands. The only thing I can think of is it must still be somehow locked to t-mobile even though I have had the phone un-locked and when I checked to see if it was locked to t-mobile it was and I un-locked it from t-mobile by entering a code for another Samsung phone and when I did this it said on the screen that all locks were inactive.

  • crusty_69 Feb 10, 2008

I forgot to write the code down and I can't remember it.
What is a master re-set? and how can I do it?

Hey,,

ok here is your problem,, you said its unlocked right,,

Then its obiously a network compability issue, usually the phone isnt compability with the frequencey of your network,, This can be easily corrected by taking it to any cellular dealer who will just replace the necessary circuit or board.. I am not lying it may cost you a preety penny but to verify it will work, take it to the dealer and ask them why it aint working and i think they will tell you the exact thing i just said..

YOU MAY WANT TO TRY HAVING THE PHONE CABLE UNLOCKED BY A DEALER ,, the cable unlocks all features ,, take it to a dealer *any cell dealer) to have this done.. THIS IS ASSUMING your phone isnt unlocked or not unlocked propperly and also assuming your phone is genuine and not a cheap clone.

Hi,

If your phone is already unlocked then you can use your sim from Australia. Debranding only gets rid of some preinstalled stuff like wallpapers/ringtones/startup+shut down screens.

I see...I would advise going to a shop that specializes in flashing phone firmwares to have a generic version of the T329 firmware flashed to your phone. To do it at home you need to optain (purchase) special hardware which I think is relatively expensive (for example http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/n...) and not worth it if you are probably going to use it once. However, try to master reset the phone and see if this helps. Also, did you make sure that the sim card is not damaged and that you have decent recption in your area.

Let me know how it goes.

I just remembered something....your phone only supports 850/1800/1900 Mhz networks (since it's tageted for use in the USA). Under what frequency is your network using? I am guessing it's 900Mhz (most networks use that) which explains the endless searching (searching for the 900 Mhz band).

Thanks for replying. So there is the 1800 Mhz band in which your phone can use. Do you know if you have good 1800 Mhz coverage (or any 1800 Mhz coverage) in your area? Lot's of operators work on both bands but usually the 900 Mhz has better coverage. You will need to ask Optus.

I see...so you suspect the phone might still be locked? Do you still have the code to perform the unlock again?

Did you try a master reset?

De sim card is askin for de puk code.... i dont know wat it is.

PUK stands for Personal Unblocking Key. This is a uniqueeight-digit code specific to your SIM card. This is required when the PINnumber to unlock your mobile phone is entered incorrectly 3 times. You are thengiven 10 attempts to enter your PUK code. If an incorrect PUK code is enteredafter the 10th attempt, you will block your SIM card permanently and willrequire a new SIM card from your mobile phone provider.
PUK codes can be obtained through the following ways - The PUK code is in your SIM card documentation Starter Pack.If you do not have this then -Please contact your phone service provider.
Your cell phone service provider can give you the PUK code once you give themyour account details and they have confirmed your identity.

How do i debrand this phone?

The Orange branding will not affect your WAP (internet connection) but it is loaded as default connection. Go to Samsung's UK website, locate the support section. Select your handset model & request settings for the provider who's SIM you're currently using. Configeration settings are sent by SMS free of charge!

the unlock is one part. Try change the settings (you can get them from your current operators website). If you're able to change them then ok. If not you'll need to debrand the phone as well to be abble use internet services from other operators.

Can you debrand a unpaid verizon phone to work on sprint systems

You cannot, Sprint doesn't allow customers to use phone son their network that are not theirs. It is possible to re-brand the phone for Sprint but they won't allow you to activate it. If you were doing the reverse Verizon would allow you to but Sprint won't I have tried it in the past.
