Casio ex-s500 i cannot find the two latches that hold the lens assembly in. do i need to remove the lcd from the back to get to them, or are they on the front side?

the easiest clip to remove first is the one on the outside. then i unclipped the one on the top right under the ribons and then the entire lens assembly came out. next i removed the ribons from teh board by popping the clips up to release the ribon.

They are on the front side once you remove the cover diconnect the ribbon cables and look at the bottom right hand corner and there is one of your clips. the other one is caddy corner to it top left of the lens. I fix them also.

Casio ex-s500 front facade around lens has come off

My wife accidentally dropped ours and the ring popped off when it hit the floor. It does just twist back on. You just have to get it lined up just right and then it will essentially snap into place. If you don't get the ring lined up right though it will just conitinue to fall off. I've had focussing issues with mine ever since the ring came off though.

Casio Exilim EX-S500 Diaphragm Problem

Well, on mine the problem was inside the lens assembly. There is a ribbon wire that runs along the inside wall of the lens housing (that powers the diaphragm motor) and, as the lens is retractable and there is a zoom mechanism, it forms a loop, so it can extend and retract along with the housing. In my camera, this wire formed a crack right in the middle of that loop. The crack does not extend along the whole width yet, so in certain zoom positions there actually is an intermediate contact, so that the diaphragm actually works if you use the intermediate zoom, but does not work in max or min zoom positions.
As for fixing it, the only thing you can pretty much do is to replace the whole lens assembly. That wire is a branch of a bigger one that powers other motors in the lens, so you can't really remove it easily, and besides, no one carries it by itself. The new lens assembly is $380 from the parts supplier. So I just bought a broken camera off ebay for 9 bucks, with a functional lens. When it comes in, I'll just replace it. The replacement part is actually pretty straight forward. The lens assembly is held by 3 snap tabs, so just disconnect the wires for the CCD and the motors and remove the assembly.

Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z60... Problem

The power leads that are soldered from the main circuit board to the LCD are near the lens assembly ( about 7 o'clock). Did you break one of these? If so, it will need to be resoldered.

Remove the Back and front covers, then use a small flathead screwdriver to release the 2 hinges that hole the lens assy down; then unlatch the 2 ribbons cables. Now you can install the new lens assy. If you're not going to use the "old lens assy, can I have it, please? Thanks.

The lens won't come in and wont turn on.

The lens gears are stuck/stripped. The S500 has horribly soft gears. I have a nice stack of bad S500 lenses myself. Unfortunately, the lens will need to be replaced. The only cost effective option is a good used lens from a camera on eBay that maybe has a bad LCD or something.
