Xerox 4045 laser printer L2 and L3 errors

I used this for a while with excellent results until I got L2 or L3 errors. Haven't been able to find a Maintenance manual. Can you help please?

    Can't see how to reply properly to SeekPCRepair's note, so adding as addendum this post!

    I actually bought the 4505 (I think) manual listed here, but nothing for the quite different 4045/4046 is shown.

    I think Xerox offer one at several hundred dollars! If any Xerox engineer out there can help, or you have a service/technical/maintenance manual It would be a real service. One expert respondent advised they'd thrown out all their 4045s because of the cost and problems of maintenance, for which they couldn't get reasonable help. These laser printers are really superb output, with potentially long life, but need support.

An L2 code indicates that the ROS PWB has failed to detect a start of scan signal. A L3 is the laser beam will not go on. In english this means that the laser has failed or power going to it has failed. As a former Xerox tech that worked on this model unless you have a spare 4045 for parts it is time for a new printer. You can check all the connections to the laser but it more than likely has a bad laser assembly, (or parts of the assembly-polygon motor,ROS pwb, laser diode) or IOTC pwb. If you are not familiar with servicing laser printers to not attempt to repair this yourself. Working on this laser printer can be hazardous. You cannot see the laser beam and could cause permanent eye damage. It also has high voltages in this printer. Be careful and hope this helps.

From the manual I have the 4045 LASER CP MODEL 150 REFERENCE MANUAL all it says about either L2 or L3 is that they are "Scanning failure"s and said to look at the User manual "Operating the 4045" section
in the back of that the only mention I found was that L2, L3, and L5 are "illuminator malfunctions."

Judging from what you've said, I would say this is a setting on the printer. You need to make sure you have the outgoing address correct. Basically go into your printer settings with your E-mail server IP's.

The error indicates a black ink stick was jammed. You have to clear the ISC (ink stick count) error. Turn off the printer. Turn on the printer. As soon as you see XEROX start moving across the display hold down the back and help buttons until you see "beginning service mode" on the display. Release the buttons, it will now come up in the service mode. Scroll down to the function menu, hit ok, scoll to clear isc faault, hit ok. Hit the back button to get back to the first menu then exit diagnostics, hit ok when it asks if you want to restart in customer mode.
If you ever buy any Xerox ink and you get a cracked ink stick call Xerox cb_transparent_l.gifus.gifspace.gifspace.gifarrow.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gif800-835-6100cb_transparent_r.gif and they will replace it free of charge. Otherwise you risk this problem.

Xerox Tektronix Phaser 7700 Laser - Wrinkling paper slightly.

Hy the problem is: You have to clean the 2nd BTR and the transfer belt cleaner. There is a large amount of used toner on those things.

The display screen reads "L3"

that is related to the scanner. Lamp, or cable, and to be honest, it would be much less problem to replace the printer. That is a very hard machine to service and that is a difficult problem and can be very expensive to repair.
