How do i get the at sign for emails?

It depends on the keyboard. If your physical keyboard does not match the language set by the operating system, the wrong information will appear when you type certain keys.
For US English keyboards, @ is shift+2.
For UK keyboards, @ is shift+' (the key which is two steps to the right of the "L" key.)
For French "AZERTY" keyboards, @ is the right-Alt key and 0 (zero)
Ensure that your operating system is set to know which kind of keyboard you are using, who what you see matches the keys on the keyboard. For example, in Windows 7, this is Control Panel -> Region and Languages.

HOW TO GET MY LAPTOP TO STOP USING THE PINK ALTCAR

I found this on another website and it worked for me. Good luck.

Okay, I know this is an old question but when i searched for the same problem recently, it was the nearest I could find. So in case others are having the same problem:

The Vaio you have is a Canadian model, which has alternate keyboard drivers for English and French. The alt car key only works with the French keyboard (durr). To switch, press the LEFT control key and RIGHT shift key at the same time, then release. Now if you use the alt car key like the shift key, i.e. hold it down then press another key, you should be able to access the pink characters. To return to English keyboard, press left-ctrl and right-shift together again.

When I type, sometimes a key types a french letter with an accent. How do I get it back to the english version? Also, my number pad to the right of the main keyboard doesn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Make sure the NUM LOCK key is on. Your number key pad won't work if it's not on. As far as the French letters with accents, when the Enable indicator on taskbar check box is selected, and you have two or more languages installed, an indicator that represents the default language appears on the Windows taskbar. To switch between languages quickly, click the indicator, and then click the language you want to use. You can also use shortcut keys to switch between languages while you type. Select one of the switch languages options on the Language tab to set the shortcut keys.

The slash key under the ? shows up as a e with an accent why?

To the right of the "space-bar" on the keyboard, hold down the ALT GR ("alternate graphic") key, press the "slash" key, and release the ALT GR key.

Or, in "Regional Settings" within "Control Panel", change your "input method" to "US-English" keyboard, rather than some French or French-Canadian input method.

Instead of getting the @ symbol when I press shift +2 i get "

you need to hold down ctrl and function on the left side of your keyboard, and then hit the shift key on the right side of your keyboard. Then let go of right shift while still holding down the control and function keys, and then hit right shift again.

these blue keys are french keys. if you change your keyboard settings to english US or UK, it will get rid of the blue functions, but for some reason, they tend to turn themslves back on again after time. Most likely due to automatic updates followed by an auto restart. Also, I find that the issue only arises if I am in my hotmail account.....no issue in Word docs.

How do we key the question mark key, only get the french colored letters

To change this keyboard back to English, hold the Shift key and press Control once.

If this helps, please be sure to hit the "thumbs up" for me.

If not, use the "add comment" up on the top-right corner and we'll troubleshoot it further.

Keyboard

that means that the keyboard has been set to a different language. On my screen at the bottom right hand is a little keyboard icon and when i click on it it lets me scroll through US English, Canadian French and Canadian Multilingual Standard. If the keyboard is set to the Canadian French option (or whatever other option that is available on your keyboard in red characters) the number two button changes function.

Green keys on bilingual (EN FR) keyboard

Finally I figured it out. Hold the shift control function keys at the same time. This will turn the green key function on and off.
