Question about Garmin GPSMAP 3010C GPS Receiver
When the unit gets too cold or too hot, it turns off right after it is turned on. Also, when I turn it on, it goes to the license agreement. When I push "I agree" it turns off. It is pretty chronic.
By the way, we have 10 of these and they all are just as temperamental.
I am aware of an issue that caused random shutdowns when a button is pushed. The most recent software version is 5.20. It should show up on the bottom of your start up screen. If you don't have the most recent version a software update may solve the problem.
To get the software update, click this link: Garmin 3010 update
You need a blank Garmin Card and a card reader install the update to your GPS, or you need a PC interface cable.
Another thing that can cause the GPS to shut down is when the power drops below 11.2 volts. If the engine isn't running, and the batteries are not strong, extreme temps could be affecting the output of your batteries. Or perhaps there is something else in your electrical system which is causing fluctuation in voltage.
I mention this second alternative because you have so many models that are having problems. They are pretty reliable units and I wouldn't expect to see so many fail at once, which leads me to believe that the source of the problem may be outside the GPS
