See this thread, someone with a similar problem to you:

I'll summarize the solution:

The "software" H4 problem is quite common that Xerox has a resolution on its website

Solution: Perform a Fault Reset 14
Performing a Fault Reset 14 will reset your WorkCentre and will help to clear error codes.

1. Find the pink Clear button on the Control Panel of the WorkCentre.
2. Find the button below the word Auto.
3. Press these buttons in the following sequence: [Clear], [Auto], [Clear], [Auto]

NOTE: All of the lights on the Control Panel should go out and the LED Display should go blank. If the lights do not go out, then repeat step 3 until they do. It may be necessary to increase or decrease the pace of the [Clear], [Auto], [Clear], [Auto] sequence.

4. Press the [10's] key one time and the [1's] key four times to enter '14' in the LED Display, as if you were to make 14 copies.
5. Press the green [Start] button.
6. Press the pink [Clear] button two times.
7. The WorkCentre should now warm up and come to ready.
8. If the above steps do not clear the error code, repeat steps 3 to 6 a second time.

By the way, to answer your question, an H4 fault is supposed to mean that the fuser temperature is too low and so there is a problem with your fuser and it needs replacing.

However, the code has been known to show sometimes, even when the fuser is just fine. If that's teh case, performing the reset I explained will clear the error.

If it REALLY IS YOUR FUSER, then the reset won't work. In that case, replace your fuser before you go off and rate this solution.

I have a Xerox XD 100 work centre showing a H-4 code what is the problem?.

The H4 code on these machines is almost always a false code. Especially if you have had any power fluctuations or failures.
Here is the text from my tip to solving this problem here on Fixya:
To reset the H3 or H4 condition on just about any Xerox XC or XD series copier press the following key's in sequence and as quickly as possible (with 4 seconds for the first 4 keys)
Press "C" then the far left key (exposure mode) then the "C" key then the far left again.
So in other words C, far left, C, far left
If done correctly the display should go blank.
Now key in 14 as if you were going to make 14 copies.
Now press the print button.
The machine should reset and the code should be gone.
9 times out of 10 this is a false code that pops up due to power surges or noise.
If the code comes back this means you have a heater lamp or thermal fuse (more common) failure in the fusing area and will need service.
This procedure will work on all Xerox XD and XC models.

We have a workcenter pro 45. The new fuser module is on order, but the fuser model went out today. Is there a way to override the error until the new module arrives?

What error? H4? If so then you can get the reset procedure by searching my tip for this under "Sharp AL series H4"
Your Xerox XD100 is made by Sharp

Error H-4

H4-00 on Sharp means that the temperature inside the printer is too low. That is usually the fuser lamp, and sometimes the temp sensor jammed.

Only when the problem is a jammed temp sensor or a jammed control board you can reset the machine by doing a reset.

You try reset from simulation mode by following procedure below:
Clear key >>Interrupt key >> "0" key >> Interrupt key >> Main code >>Start key >> Sub code >> Start key

If the error remains, that means that the fuser is really bad and must be replaced.

When this happen you need to have the fuser unit replaced, if that does not fix the problem the technician will replace the temperature sensor.
