I have had my component set for some time. It all works well, but the mids are showing some wether age and I need some new covers. It's probably cheaper to replace the set then to find the pieces. I just hated to waste the good parts. Any help would be great. Thanks

I have a Toshiba d-vr7kc2 vcr, brand new out of the box bought 10 years ago, used it 2 times to copy from vhs to cd. Now machine will not turn on with an old tape stuck in it.

The trouble with the video cassette recorder is it is full of rubber components - belts and wheels that don't age well, though it is doubtful that is the only problem.

Capacitors too, often don't age well, especially if the unit could have been subjected to high summer temperatures or freezing winter temperatures but again that probably wouldn't render the machine completely unresponsive.

It should be possible to remove the top cover of a front loader and turn the mechanism by hand to remove the tape but putting it back into working order should be left to a professional. There is often an internal fuse and it could be worth checking that...

How to install a convergence kit in R61WH76 chassis no. itc222a

That model doesnt have the normal convergence components that nost other sets have. There are no convergence ICs the convergence is actually affected by three boards within that chassis it can be deflection board related, Convergence power board or the convergence amp board. Based on your TVs setup menu diagnosis will determine wether a component needs replacement or wether a circuit board will need replacement.

It is a FB series Ford Ute. The lights showing the speedometer etc. do not work so you cannot see how fast you are going at night time. Can you advise how to fix?

Check fuses first. Then check wether the bulb on the speedo is blown. If not then the wiring/switch may need to be replaced. If you haven't done auto-electrical work before then you should probably get someone who has to do it.

How do I set a timing belt for a 1989 Mazda 929

You need to get a manual. Try the Haynes manual for your car. Try autozone; generally available for around $20. This is not the type of thing that can be covered here in enough detail to do you any good. You need a picture.
Buy new timing belt. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove timing belt cover. make sure cylinder #1 is set at TDC. making sure all components are properly aligned and loosen pensioner to remove old timing belt. Install new timing belt. Tension belt, ensure all components are aligned properly, replace timing belt covers and reconnect battery.

Dvd 300, have sound but no picture

This unit is probably just aging out and finally given up working. The first sign of problems is when you should have looked for solutions to the problem. When a unit start to malfunction it is usually a sign that it is overheating or aging out. Sometimes this occurs in new unit , but that is usually faulty components. This problem shows up early and can be fixed or replaced. In older units the whole mechanism is aging out and there can be numerous problems leading to a major failure. In these cases only a replacement is really cost effective. Hope this helps you with your problem.

Ok new problem My Compaq is still beeping and now the screem stay

Hi Mate

Unless you have just added a new harware component this is realy bad news. If you have remove whatever it is and see if you can't get the system to boot.

Sounds very much like the MB has failed, probably due to a power spike. If the unit is still under warranty it would be worth trying to make a warranty claim otherwize most home and contents insurance cover this type of damage.

If you realy want to trouble shoot yourself and see wether it is the MB crack the case and pull everything bar the cpu, ram and vga, flash JP1 or BIOS/CMOS jumper and see wether it will boot with a single tone and a display. If it does your on a winner just start reconecting each component one at a time re-booting each time untill you come across the component that has failed and replace it.

O.K. just a few hints for working on the guts of a computer:

Static precautions: No need for an anti static wrist strap just make sure that at all times that you are handling an internal component that the power is off at the wall, one part of your body is in contact with the frame of the computer and that you handle cards/RAM by the edges or the "tounge".

Flashing the BIOS: This sets the MB back to its factory set defaults, basicaly a safe/optimal configuration. the jumper will be labled (in teeny weeny litle leters) as JP1, BIOS or CMOS or even CIMOS. It will have three pins with one jumper covering the central pin and one other. WITH THE POWER OFF. Move the jumper so that it covers the central pin and the previously exposed one, hold for three seconds and return back. This is efectively the hardware equivalent of the three fingered salute.

Hope this helps but if I was a betting man I would have my money on the MB, keep all the rest of your components and replace the MB wich will probably require a change in CPU.

Sacraficial power boards with LAN and modem conections are inexpensive and save a lot of tears.

Kind regards

Sony Trinitron Wega kv-36fs120 wont turn on, standby/timer LED flashes 9 times.

The relay is in the power supply area. I am sure that the fault is not the relay.

It is very common that there are various components starting to go off spec from age. Most of the failures are in the scan amplifiers and power supply areas.

It is also possible that the CRT emission is too low from age. What happens is that it is on the minimum edge and this explains why the set may turn on some of the time.

When the main uPC in the set sees any potential fault conditions it will go in to a protection mode to prevent damage and to be safe. Your set is probably borderline to operate.

Considering the age of your set, I would be shopping for a new TV set.

No pic, no sound

Power light blinking mean that the internal power supply is not working correctly. Often the internal power supply itself need to be repaired ( usually a one hour work if spare parts available). Another basic circuit in the TV can be short circuited due to a component failure and consequently cause the internal power supply to block everything. A routined pro must be able to tell you within short time cost of repair and spare parts. Up to you to then decide wether or not have this set repaired. Be aware a pro will ask you a fee for this service, even you don't want the set to be repaired. You can save some cost if you bring your TV set yourself to the repair-shop. The kind of problem is not really age-related; if your TV is running daily 16 hours, with many on/off switching, and particularly in a cool place can degrade some components within warranty time.
