SOURCE: broken hinge

Depending on the damage you can try to super glue it back.
Apart from that you will have to take it to a laptop repair shop and see what they say.

How do you fix a dm4 Hinge that is broke where it connects to the screen

You can buy hinges on ebay at:

http://www.ebay.com

Just type your computer make and model in the search followed by lcd hinges.

If the hinges are broken where the lcd screen connects to the base of the laptop then you will have to remove the screws from the bottom of the laptop and remove the strip that is at the top of the keyboard to get to them.

If the hinges on the side of the lcd frame is broken then you will have to remove the plastic strip that is around the lcd screen. Remove the plastic or rubber bumpers on the plastic strip then you will see screws to remove to remove the plastic strip. Then you will see hinges and screws on the side of the lcd screen that you can remove. Once you have them removed you can lean the lcd lid forward so that it drops in your hand. Don't let it drop on the keyboard, just into your hand and not too far because there is a cable on the back of the lcd that you don't want to damage. The cable can be taken loose from from the lcd at the back near the top if you like. Sometimes there might be a piece of tape securing it. If the lcd screen does not come out then there are screws on the 4 corners that is securing it and the hinges.

A hinge seems to be broken or loose on the laptop screen, how can i fix it

Many laptops have plastic coverings on their hinges. You can can pop these off with a screw driver and sometimes you can reach the screws to tighten the hinges from here. You may be able to tell if the hinge is broken from here as well. Many times, though, the screws holding the hinges in place are located on the bottom and you will have to remove the portion of the case that is covering them. This usually means the entire lower portion of the laptop case to access these screws.

As you look at my asus a6r notebook yheright hand

If you're lucky no, just pay close attention when you take it apart to what's below the plate...sometimes the plastic / holes where the screws go in break and if they're bad then the bottom assembly will have to be replaced as well.

Dometic rm2804 door hinges are worn and plastic strip retainer is broken off. On the lower door the hinge pins fit into round metal guides. In turn, the metal guides are held in place on the door corners...

I had this problem. I reversed the decorative plastic strips, both ends of the strip have hinge pin holes, so the doors can open left or right. I put the TOP decorative plastic strip on the bottom and BOTTOM on top.

Can i fix my broken laptop.

Well, if the display comes on at all, then it must be a loose connection in the wiring. Sometimes this is a simple reseating of the main cable to the mother board which comes down from the display near or around one of the hinges (in most cases). I would suggest, purchasing a cheap external monitor, and plugging it into the rear or video out port if you have one, and switching your display to go to the external monitor, this will work good as a desktop scenario. Otherwise, you need to take it all apart and see if you can find out where the loose connection is, this is no easy task, and should be done by a qualified laptop repair person who has experience.

Broken top screen (original DS)

Replying to the first post:
If you have broken the ribbon cable, which is highly likely if you have broken the hinge, then the DS will not work. It does not turn on unless there is a connection to both screens. You will need to buy a new ribbon cable for it:
A useful site I found is: www.consoleparts4u.co.uk

Once you replace this then it should work for you.

Repling to th second post:

I would recommend buying a new case for it at least because the ribbon cable will break if left broken due to the strain on it.

The more expensive but easier option is to buy a new one.

Hope this helps,

Mowcius

Compaq presario 1200

there are plastic covers over the hinges, which may be part of the faceplate. being a compaq the hinge screws are most likely torx head screws. compaq used to make a special tool for removing the plastic covers on their laptops. the tool was a bar with a piece of fiberglas circuit board embedded in it. you insert the circuit board into the groove between the top and bottom covers and twist. this is, of course after removing all of the cover screws. some of the cover screws on the display may be hidden under rubber bumpers.
