Exact same problem described by michaelg22. Same make and model philips home theater reports "No Disc". It works okay if I disconnect and reconnect power but again not always - maybe around 30% of time. Owned it for about 1.5 yrs.

MY SYSTEM WILL NOT RECOGNIZE ANY DVD OR MOVIE DISK. I PUT THE DISK IN UNPLUGGED THE UNIT PLUGGED IT RIGHT BACK IN WITH THE DISK IN IT THEN TURNED THE UNIT BACK ON RIGHT AWAY AND IT RECOGNIZED THE DISK. APPEARS THAT PHILIPS HAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT AFTER A YEAR AND HALF THAT IS HOW LONG I HAVE OWNED MY UNIT AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. HOW CAN THIS BE FIXED

I am having the same problem. I have possibly determined why. When I insert a dvd they do not always spin up, however if I unplug the system, when I plug it back in it spins up a little bit. This could be why unplugging and replugging it works occasionally.

New repair really that goes with out saying! Yes I have the same problem it seems the drive motor that turns the disc when it feels like it I took it apart and watch it. So if the disc doesn't turn it reads no disc found.I'm just guessing.

Same Phillips HTS3400. Same problem where it shows up and says: "NO DISC" My disk never spins, so it never recognizes the disk.
If I get really interested, I'll pull the thing apart and put a scope on the leads to the motor to see if it's the motor, or the drive circuitry.
My ultimate solution is to scratch "Phillips" from my future list of electronic purchases along with RCA. (I have a nice 52 inch paperweight in the garage)

I have exactly the same problem. I have had it about 1 and a half years. The strange thing is that sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not I have unplugged it as well and that works SOMETIMES.

Same problem. I took it apart and looked at all the connection, bought a DVD cleaner and manually spun it, and tightened every connection but it still won't work.

No Disc, yep, same problem, this thing seems to be a pile of ****. I will try the power-down thing a see if it works. We should all write to Phillips and demand a remedy... The web is full of people complaining about this unit. maybe they'll take care of us

Mine will spin slowly, searching for the disk info. It does not seem to be alligned properly to do this.

Run a dvd cleaner through system, and try again. If that fails, unplug the HTS from the wall outlet for 10-15 seconds, and replug it. If that fails, it will need to be repaired.

Our Philips HTS3400 DVD player is not working. When inserting a disc, it displays "No Disc". Any suggestions?

seems to be an issue with this model, i cant play any discs, the sound is only coming from the left rear speaker and the sub, the system shuts off every half hour due to overheating...needless to say the system sucks...didnt last long...im very tech savvy and still couldnt figure out why all of this was happening.
im looking at samsung now...everything else i have is samsung and love it.

Does not read dvd

Your problem is that you bought a Phillips instead of a Sony.  Quality vs. Quantity my friend.
Anyways, your DVD player is set up to play region 1 and the disc you inserting is probably some other region.  Look on the back of the DVD case and it will say what region you can play the disc on.  Also, clean off all the smudge marks on the disc with some glass cleaner and this disc won't play if you got a lot of scratches on the thing.
If the above didn't help, then your fuc..d, cause your laser pickup is dirty or defective.  Run a DVD laser cleaning kit through it, which is available at all the big box stores.  See if that helps out any.  If not, then your truly fuc..d and you need to call the manufacturer if this thing is still under the 1 year warranty.  If your under 30 days, then just take it back to the store and exchange the thing out.

If you have a screwdriver q tip and rubbing alcohol you can fix it. Take the screws out remove the cover and locate the laser. It looks like a small lens. Dip the q tip into the rubbing alcohol just get it damp not dripping. Clean the lens with the Q tip and then put it back together.
