Broken tray Panasonic SA-HT820V

Neighbor's kid broke tray, now DVD player doesn't work along with the rest of the unit. Took the entire DVD housing out. Includes the plastic housing, a white plastic top, the five trays, all the plastic gears, and two circuit boards underneath. What is the part # for this so I can order a new one?

my problem with the Panasonic SA-HT82OV was similar, but the problem started when I tried to open the tray it just said wait, I called the tech support and they suggested resetting the unit by holding the open/close rew and play buttons (on the VCR side) for 3 seconds and then the screen did nothing, then I reset the channel controls for the VCR and now I can't switch it back to the DVD side, (to see if it will respond specifically when input is in DVD) Any advise or should I pay for an estimate? thanks

The mechanism gears are probably out of timing. If you are mechanically inclined, you can fix it. You need to find the service manual and in it there are about 10 pages of step by step directions on how to take it apart and align all the gears. it take some effort but it is much cheaper than buying the whole tray mechanism and I doubt that any parts are broken.

Thanks ss13 - much appreciated. My unit just developed the WAIT problem too. Any Idea where I could get that service manual?

You should note that u will not be able to order that particular alone, rather you can only get the entire mechanism.

Thanks........!!!!!!!!

Maybe if you ask it to OPEN the tray as soon as you turn it on and leave it that way it might move on to other functions. A hands-on tech would have to lay hands and eyes on it otherwise.

Believe it or not there is a seller on eBay who offers a one-price fixit solution for your unit for $100.

That aside, these types of systems are designed as a package to be used as a unit. Otherwise they might have standard connectors. Another closely-related Panasonic SA-HT system might work for you but I doubt anyone manufactures anyhting to adapt non-standard speakers to standard electronics.

They actually say on page 9 of the manual:

"Use only supplied speakers
Using other speakers can damage the unit, and sound quality will
be negatively affected.

I would interpret that to mean 'use these speakers only with similar Panasonic electronics'.

The loading mechanism is out of timing sequence and needs to be rebuilt. This unit should be taken to a Panasonic authorized service center for repair. At that time the loading mechanism may be modified according to engineering updates that may apply to your model. I don't have a listing for your specific model, but there were some models that had a change to prevent this type of problem.
