Question about Samsung DLP HL-P5663W 56" TV

1 Answer

DLP HL-R5067W TV picture freezes, sometimes sound continues, then everything goes black, then seconds later TV powers up. This continually happens about every 60 seconds. After unpluging power cord allowing TV to sit for 5 minutes, repluging, TV might run with no problems for several hours. White the TV is in the freeze mode, the on/off controller will not operate the TV. Every time on/off button is pushed, the timer signal displays on the left side of the manual on/off switch. Also when the TV will not stay on at times a green screen with six black bars (one inch wide, running from top to bottom) displays. Other times the screen is small green lines with small black cubes (5) displayed top and bottom of screen. When the TV does power up after a restart top left screen shows (component 1), until TV is fully fired up. Then if it goes out immediately the component does not show and the TV will continue to cycle on off.

picture freezes then shuts off and sound continues, then after a few seconds picture reboots itself

  • derekslife Feb 20, 2008

Picture freezes. Sound continues for an additional 15-30 seconds. Then picture goes black. On/Off button doesn't turn off the TV. After the power plug is pulled and placed back in, the TV will operate for an additional 30-45 minutes until the same problem will present itself again.

I have the same problem Picture freezes, sound stays on, screen goes black and 15 -20 seconds later the picture returns. If I disconnect and reconnect the power, it usually is resolved. Help.

I have the same problems as all of you, it first started on my component cable inputs for HD Tv and DVD even after replacing or switching cords. I switched my cable box to HDMI output and that took the problem away for the HD TV however, I still have the problem with the DVD player when using the component wires. Might be something with the internal connection/buffering of the component cables/input.

I have the same problem with the screen freezing up and going black. We tried the unplug idea, it sometimes help but not very often. I was wondering if it was the tuner. I have no problem when we watch a DVD, but all kinds of problems when we use air reception and non-digital reception. Also when we use the tape player on chennel 3. The analog signals are really messed up, they are a yellowish color and poor performance. Help please

Tv will not respond to remote or side controls or on/off button. Will not turn off with screen showing 5 vertical green bars on black and white background, this condition goes blank then back to bars. Also no sound. when any button on remote is pushed timer light flashes then goes out. Only way to turn off is with cord.

  • Anonymous Nov 30, 2008

I see green bars too and power cycles all by itself.

Same problem except my screen goes to black and white (pixals), sound is still there, only unpluging will turn the tv off.

my samsung turns off by itself

  • ctrigger76 Feb 11, 2009

Mine powers on and off by itself no sound and remote doesn't work nor controls on the tv itself. Just keeps flashing timer. I'm trying to get a buy out option through warranty right now. It's the digital board which the service guy couldn't find available. Now i'm awaitinf a phone call today or tommorow too see if they will buy me out and give me full price. God i hope they do cause this tv is know for the boards going out even after replacement in just a few months. It's been on the floor for over a month now. It sux now i have a 19" tv for my viewing pleasure ick. I'm extremely mad that it has taken this long and now i have to wait even longer. 1-2 days to know if the are gonna pay out and then another 7-15 business days before i even receive the check. If no buy out i'll feel totally screwed. :(

Your model has a maximum resolution of 720p. What you might want to do is make sure that both your cable/sat box and game stations are outputting at no more than 720 resolution. It's easy to assume that all HDTVs may accept a higher signal, and while they might, some of the scene changes or handshakes may make that operation cause the symptoms you describe.

hi,

The best and the only solution to fix this problem is to call a tech and get it serviced or if it is still under warranty just get it replaced.

Few troubleshooting steps you can try:

1)Do a hard reset by unpluging all the cords for 4hrs and then plug it back.
2)The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to work reliably.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution

I own a Samsung HL-R5067W 50'' DLP. Set is about 3 years old. Recently I heard a loud pop while viewing, picture distorted, but never went blank. I turned set off. When turned on again a loud whining noise...

Check your color wheel. There is a DIY guide for replacing the color wheel. Mine did the same thing yours is and my color wheel was all busted up. Unfortunately after replacing the color wheel my set continues to do the same thing, but this could mean I need to replace the ballast as well.
