HP Officejet v40 - Can send faxes but can't receive

Fist check the tele line, if its ok then replace LIU card..

Set your HP V40 to answer in 3 or more rings, or disable answering.
Set WinFax to answer in 2 rings.

I have checked all my connections and my hp office jet v40 is giving the message off the hook though the phone it is connected to is not off the hook.

Does you machine have th option for distinctive ring? this feature when activated through your telephone company will allow the machine to answer the fax or have it go to the telephone. If the machine dose not have distinctive ring you would need to purchase a comswitch (they are usualy areound $30) this device will route the fax to the fax or the telephone cal to the phone.
