Question about Compaq Presario 2200 (292600-004) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Upgrade cpu I have a compaq presario 2254. It works fine. It has a AMD k6 266mhz cpu. I have purchased an AMD k6 300mhz cpu that I'd like to use instead. Before I change the chip, will I have to change any jumpers? There are four that I can see on the motherboard, but are not labeled. Will I have to change a setting in the BIOS? Thanks

I have no instructions for the motherboard or the computer itself. There is a jumper jp1 near the cpu that has pins 1-2 closed 3-4 open and 5-6 closed. Since it is near the cpu I thought that maybe it was a clock speed. I have also read about multipliers in the bios, is this a setting that may have to be cahnged?

There is a coin type battery. I'll have to attempt this later and will let you know the results, thanks.

no sir. normally there is no such necessary that you should cahnge any jumper settings.

but if at all the instructions of mother board mention you to change jumper setting for that particular processor you will have to do it..

but you can place it with out fear.

if the system dosent boot up you will have to go back to your mother board settings.

til then there no such necessary to do it.

    no no no..

    dont touch it gods sake...

    please..

are you able to see any BATTERY in mother board??

it will be a flat battery similar in shape of watch batteries.

now you will have to remove that battery. it will be held in by jusy small clip.

    remove that battery.

now leave it for two min exactly. now again put in the battery inside that slot.

this is the process to reset the bios.

so now after resetting the bios you can place your new processor.

after going into the system bios sucessfully you will have to set the current date manualy by going into date settings.

    this is the procedure.

    good luck sir.

I have a compaq presario sr1230nx,it has the amd athlon XP pcu which I think is a socket 462. anyways Im trying to install an AutoCad program, but it says I need a CPU that is SSE2 compliant. is there...

Access http://www.MajorGeeks.com and search for "Everest Home" software.

Download and install this _free_ software.

When you run it, click the 'CPU' tab, and you'll get a full list of what "extensions", such as SSE or SSE2, that are supported by your CPU.

Browse the AMD web-site ( http://www.amd.com ) to look for an Athlon-series CPU that _does_ have the SSE2 extensions. Buy that CPU, and install it into your computer.

Will a AMD Athlon 64 processor work in a Compaq Presario SR1050NX Desktop? My old processor Died and I purchased one of these off of Ebay, now just want to make sure it will work...

No Donnie, the motherboard for the Compaq Presario SR1050NX won't support an AMD Athlon 64 processor.

    The reason why is;
    A) The Processor socket on the SR1050NX's motherboard is a Socket A. (Also known as Socket 462)

    Hp Support > Compaq Presario SR1050NX > Specifications > Motherboard Specifications >

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00072236&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=405454

CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term used is Microprocessor, or Processor for short.
Look to the right of the CPU heading:
    Socket A (Processor socket)

This is the Socket A processor socket used on your motherboard,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_A

You can click on the photo of the Socket A processor socket, to the upper Right, to enlarge.

The AMD Athlon 64 line of processors came out after the Socket A, and used the Socket 939 first.
Then on to the Socket AM2.
    (Socket 940 for some models)

How to upgrade RAM of Compaq SRS 110 NX

You can buy a RAM from your computer from any dealer. You have to check its model, suppose DDR 2 or DDR 3 as same as your previous installed ram. You have to also check that which processor's speed it supports. e.g.- 2.9 Ghz, 3.0 Ghz etc. You can also simply give your CPU to any dealer, then they upgrade your RAM.

    Compaq presario sr1750nx Athlon 64 3500+ 2.20GHz Processor

    Hi zcaldwell1;

You have the option of upgrading your processor without buying a new system. I wouldn't purchase the other system, If you looking to upgrade look at the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6400+, that will step you up to 3.2GHz, which is compatible with your motherboard. You can get more information on it HERE. And for more information on your motherboard you can find that HERE.

The only thing you want to make sure off is that you have enough power to handle this processor. If you have a 450 or up power supply you'll be fine.

    Good Luck

    Mark

My best advice for this is to not buy it alone, or go in blindly. You should take it to a computer shop, even best buy - take it in with you and their team of experts will gladly help you.
