The problem is that the radio is dead inside the unit, if you open the box and pull the card out the wired portion of the router will come back to life! so at this point all you have is a internet router.

This router is notorious for the internal components that broadcast the wireless signal to go bad. If it is still under the MFG warranty, I highly suggest you go that route. You can pay something like $16 and have them forward a new one to you (but it will be of the same model so it is likely to go bad too) and you ship the defective one back (they send you a postage paid label). www.netgear.com - check their forums too.... a LOT of people are having issues with this specific router.

Reset to defaults and start over.
It's possible your router is dead.

Trying to set the NetGear WNR854T back to factory defaults

First disconnect the router from any modem, then push in the reset button and hold it for 5 sec. then unplug the router and wait 1 minute before plugging it back in. Connect a ethernet cable to one of the router ports and your laptop or pc, open a browser and type in the address line 192.168.0.1, Netgear routers usually use admin as the username and nothing for a password.

I dont know how to connect the netgear wnr854t to my computer. the disc doesnt apear to be working and i have no idea how to connect it up.

Hi,

Follow the below steps to reset and reconfigure the router manually:

RESET:

At the back of the router you will find a small tiny hole (which says restore to factory default settings). Press the button with the help of a paper clip and hold it down for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, please release the button and power off the router for 5 seconds then power the router back.

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable). 3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

RECONFIGURE:

1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com.
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

WNR854T router only showing green light

Hi, I understand how bad you feel for a product that does not work. I work for NETGEAR Please take a tip of advise from me. Do not purchase WNR854T as this router has lots of bugs. You may opt for WNR200 or WNR834Bv2 which are more stable and performance routers.

Also, refurbished products will not be entertained by NETGEAR for any replacement support as these devices have been tempered and open. Thus the serial number would be missiing of these devices.

Hope, this information helps.

Lost power While updating firmware and now router does not work

If the firmware update was interrupted, the router may be "bricked", meaning it has corrupted files and will not be able to function as it should. You should call NetGear support and see what they suggest, since you probably won't have the tools necessary to restore the firmware.

Problem connecting to Netgear WNR854T Gigabit edition

The WNR854T will downspeed to 10Mbps on its ethernet ports so speed should not be a problem.
Suggest you try crossover ethernet cable between router and dsl modem.

The Green light is the only thing that is on. Nothing works, not the switch, not the router. I think it is completely dead and needs refurbishing. If so who repairs these devices ? Do you ??? Please...

The warranty on a Netgear is sinfully long, like maybe 5 years, so It's unlikely that it is out of warranty.

Somewhere on the back of that unit, there ought to be vent holes, only one of them hides a reset button. Get a paper clip and push the reset button untill all the lights go out and come back on in the router. Now connect a network cable to the box and your PC. You may have to set your PC to 192.168.1.5 and log into 192.168.1.1. (it may also be 0.5 and 0.1 by default).

Netgear will be in default and let you set this up just as if you had taken it out of the box.

You may want to check netgear.com for manuals and repair info.
