We found the fridge compartment iced up and it had frozen some goods (fruit & vegetables). The "super" light was flashing. We left it turned off to defrost and since turning back on the light still flashes and it is freezing up again.
Is there anything we can do or does it need an engineer to call? What would the likely cost be? Is it worth reparing as it is just 4 years old?

Re: Orange flashing "Super" light
FORGET THE LIGHT FOR NOW,REMOVE FREEZER BACK PANEL,MAKE SURE FAN IS WORKING,FIND THE DEFROST TIMER BOTTOM FRONT,OR ON BACK,OR INSIDE FRIG.TURN CLOCKWISE SLOWLY TILL YOU HEAR CLICK,THEM GO BACK TO FREEZER SEE IF THE DEFROST HEATER KICK ON YOU SHOULD SEE THE ICE MELTING OFF,IF NOT YOU HAVE A BAD HEATER,YOU SHOULD REPLACE TERMANATOR TO ITS A LITTLE ROUND CLIPON ON OFF SWITCH FOR HEATER,NOW WAIT ABOUT 20-30 MINUTES TO SEE IF FRIG. COME OUT OF DEFROST IF IT DOES YOUR DEFROST TIMER IS GOOD,YOU CAN ALSO CHECK HEAT WITH OMES METER IF YOU KNOW HOW,LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU KIND,THANKS-MIKE

if ice is on the door and ceiling and frozen water dropleats on the food packages the door was left open and the air ducts are frozen.when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing,if not it could be bad or iced up,if the ice is on the inside back wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, get back to me and tell me if the ice or like snow is just on the back wall or if the door was left open ice will be on ceiling ,door and shelves and food packages, also that's not a good model number if the freezer is on top look at the left wall up near the ceiling in the fridge section, you should see a tag there with the model number.
Our Amana afi2538aes is doing the same thing. Had a repairman out. He called tech support at Amana. They had him adjust the "thermistors" but it is colder than ever running at 28-30degrees in the fresh food compartment despite being set at 46 degrees. Tech support also recommended installing some sort of "ice bin seal kit to take care of the problem" according to our invoice from repairman. Repairman was told that the ice bin in the fresh food compartment puts cold air out (to keep the ice frozen) which freezes the food in the fresh food compartment. I called Amana and the rep I spoke to said he couldn't find record of this being a problem with the model but tech support told our repairman "we've had a lot of problems with this happening."
check the damper door vent assembly located between the freezer and refrige compartments and make sure its not frozen open so as to let cold air in all the time, adjust the temp in the refrige and the door should open and close with adjustments,if not then damper door motor assy or the electronic control board is defective that supplies power to this door
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper)
between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it.
Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it
to run. There is a flap you adjust with
the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust
the fridge temp. The problem could be the electronic control if
you have one or the mechanical linkages.
Your refrigerator has a Control-defrost,adaptive timer ,PC board part number 241508001 This is providing your model is the one listed above your post WRS3R3EW. The model you listed in post does not come up. Until we can determine that the freezer is not defrosting you need to unplug and remove the back panel of freezer compartment to see if the evaporator coils are frozen or clear. If frozen this alone will cause a chain reaction that keeps vents to fresh food compartment open and cause freezing in that area. Go to link below and enter model number WRS3R3EW0 Then you will see a list of diagrams on left side, chose #11 this will show the control parts. Super easy fix. Your defrost drain is blocked by what we in the biz affectionately refer to as "Bio-Gookus", so every time the fridge goes into defrost, the newly melted water has no place to go other than the bottom of your fridge. Gravity is what gravity is, ya know?
My bet is that it's clogged up at the drain funnel located in the refrigerator/beer compartment. If I'm remembering right, it should be just to the left of the thermostat/control panel in the back. You should see a plastic cover there, remove it. See the "Bio-Gookus? Kinda gross, huh? All of that has to be cleaned out. Not only in the funnel but the tubing behind it as well.
After cleaning it (and putting the pieces back) your fridge will be happy again.
i have just fixed my fridge freezer by following the instruction from KarenBa and GWoman i have also managed to stop the lights (super cool and super freeze) from flashing by turning the temperature to zero on both fridge and freezer so they turn off then holding both super buttons down for about 15 seconds then turning the temperature back up. hope this helps
