Question about SMC Barricade g SMCWBR14T-G Wireless Router (SMCWBR14TG)

3 Answers

My SMCWBR14T-G wireless router cannot connect to the internet..

The problem I have with my router is that i can connect my laptop and configure it throught the web browser and i am using the PPPoE to setup my internet and provided all the details including the username and password from my isp. But when I see the status of my connection, the internet connection says "disconnected" and when i press the connect button nothing happens and just returns to a blank page. What seems to be the problem?

Note: the security messages doesn't say that my username and password is correct. But my isp told me that i am using the correct username and password. I tried using the dynamic ip as the connection type and when i press the renew button it gets the ip,subnet and other information but still no internet connection at all. Please help me and i will provide any further information. thanks.

This would be the router status screenshot of the connection, notice that the internet connection is disconnected and when I press connect it just returns to a blank page.

    This is the ipconfig:

By the way this are the answers to your questions:

    1. My OS is MS Windows XP Home Edition SP2

    2. I am connected via wireless but no internet connection

    3. I am not using encryption

Note: I have search other solutions and I have known that in the security log there should be a message like "username and password: ok" but I do not see anything on the security log and I also check my username and password through my ISP and they said it was the correct information, and also I tried to used dynamic IP addressing but still failed.

I also tried to used the default settings and tried again using the PPPoE type of connection becuase I have an ADSL connection, but still fails to have internet connection...

Thanks for the quick reply..I hope the informatin I have given can give light to my current situation..THANK YOU VERY MUCH...

I've the same problems like this. Everytime I have to switched off, I mean pulled out the power cord and plug it in to router again. Just to allow the router repair itself (I guess). And it will work fine for 2 days only!! then the same problem happens again. This is very annoying!

What is your OS?
Are you connecting with a wire or without?
Are you using encryption?
Post your ipconfig info:
Start Run cmd
ipconfig
Enter to copy, paste into this window
In most cases, it is best to set the router to defaults and start over.

    Your ipconfig inforamtin
The "media disconnected" message is OK. It just means you're not using the wired connection. You might want to try it just to see if it works.
Have you tried connecting to the internet with Internet Explorer?

    Let's try a ping request:
    At the command prompt:
    ping yahoo.com
Copy the results into the reply window.
In Internet Explorer Tools/Options/Connections see what connections are listed.
Download and install Firefox and see if it connects:

We have cable internet provided by Virgin. I am accessing the internet by plugging the ethernet cable dirctly into my laptop rather than via my DI524. Have just read a post that says I have to be connected...

If you can connect to the internet using the Ethernet cable on your laptop then the cable modem is configured correctly.
If you want to connect to the Internet using the D-Link wireless router then first you need to configure the D-Link wireless settings and then configure the wireless card in your laptop with the D-Link's wireless settings. Remove the Ethernet from the laptop and connect it to the WAN/Internet port on the D-Link wireless router.

Cd won't load on computer

You may configure your router without using the cd.

Using an ethernet cable, connect the router and the laptop so that you can configure it for internet connection.

1. check physical connection. modem to internet port of router. laptop to numbered port of the router.
2. check lights.
3. on your laptop go to the command prompt. (type cmd on the run window)
4. type ipconfig/all on the black screen
5. look for ip address. IP address should be in this range 192.168.0.*
6. open your internet explorer browser then type http://192.168.0.1
7. type admin on the username then password or 1234 on the password box.
8. configure the router for dsl or cable connection. don't forget to save
9. check if you have internet connection. if not, power cycle the modem and router.
10. once you're online, go to wireless tab. set your ssid (any name you want). set your encryption (either wep or wpa) don't forget to save
11. unplug the ethernet cable from the laptop and the router.
12. if the wireless card of the laptop is configured, you may click the wireless connection icon at the system tray (near the clock). enter your ssid and encryption.
13. you should have internet connection.

you're supposed to change the port on uTorrent to another that is different from the one you setup with the desktop fowarded.

and the ip address for the laptop is (has to be) different than the one you get if you were on the desktop.

SMC barricade g and timing out

just a few things that can be checked, firstly in the routers settings look at the transfer speed of the router(not the connection speed) and see if it's set at 108MBPS, if so your wireless network cards on your pc's may only be able to connect at a maximum speed of 54MBPS, unless you have the latest 108 or 125MBPS g type cards. Secondly you should be able to check the wireless signal strength by the icon in your task bar or software you use, as if you have thick walls or objects in the line of the signal from router to pc's, the strength drops and can read low and therefore cause you to lose internet connection entirely. You can also try changing the channel at which the router runs, normally this is channel 2, but trying channel 11, which is the farthest away from appliance interference may give you better results, but both router and network card channel numbers will have to be changed.
