Question about Market Forge Electric Table Top Kettle - 4 Gallon Electric Kettle

2 Answers

Kettle the inside of our kettle at work is turning green, something I have never witnessed before! We are a bit concerned as our building is extremely old and thus so is the pipework. Is it possible that limescale can present in this way or could this be caused by something else?

Leakage problem at the bottom? Toastess International Kettle Model: TJK-103...

Leakage problem at the bottom…
Toastess International Kettle
Model: TJK-103 120V, 60 Hz, 1500 W
She was complaining that our kettle was leaking a bit at the bottom.
Warranty is over.
Here is what I did to fix the problem.
Unplug the kettle and empty it completely.
Remove excess residual water inside.
Remove the bottom cover by removing the screws holding it.
Gently remove the plastic ring screwed in place.
Now you will be able to put your hand inside the kettle and push the bottom out, toward the outside of the unit.
Take out the rubber seal and clean it. Ours was full of fine residue…
Gently dry it out and lube it with tiny bit of silicon.
Clean the inside part of the kettle before putting everything back together.
Make sure that you don’t squeeze any wires inside.
With a lot of patience, put everything back in place.
Make sure that the seal is perfectly installed. You can see it looking trough the plastic.
Kettle is now fixed and she is happy! ;-)

Why does the water taste funny after two . Months use

Usually taste change is created by a build-up of something inside the kettle or pot. Try the Baking Soda cleaning method:

  • Pour one cup of baking soda into the kettle.
  • Add water to fill
  • Heat the water and baking soda to boiling
  • Unplug the kettle and allow it to set for at least 10 minutes.
  • With a scrub brush or other scrubber, gently scrub the inside of the kettlepot. Be careful not to burn yourself.
  • Once it's all clean, wash with soap and water normally and rinse really well
That will usually get out any old residue that's affecting the taste

Why won't our BOSCH TWK8633 stay switched on?

You don't say how old your kettle is, but if it is less than 1 month, I would go back to the retailer where you purchased. Make sure you have your guarantee or proof of purchase.... Otherwise, going by past experience, kettles that won't stay switched on usually need de-scaling. Even if you can't see any lime scale in the kettle, there are sediments in the water that will build up over time & that can cause the element to overheat. This makes the kettle switch off prematurely or not switch on at all. In the UK, regardless of where you live, you should de scale your kettle at least once a month. If this doesn't work, you should still go back to the retailer, but if it's found that the malfunction uis diue to lack of de-sclaing, this isn't usually covered by the warranty....good luck!

Stopped heating

A part of the problem may be from the water supply. Water with minerals builds up in the percolation area pinching off the flow. You can put a cup of water, a cup of white vinegar, and about a teaspoon of Epson salts in the kettle and try cycling it. If it gets through the cycle, dump the mixture in something temporary to save. If it short cycles, try letting it cool 15-30 minutes and cycle it again. Keep in mind this mixture will not hurt anyone, but you may want to heat a couple kettles with fresh water before making anything for your significant other. That is, if it unclogs. If it doesn't, can't hurt to let it sit an hour and try again. Chemical reaction will clear it usually eventually.
Depending on the age of your kettle and the amount of water that gets on "that" plug on the bottom from filling can take its toll on the contacts. They can usually be cleaned up, buy DO NOT HAVE IT PLUGGED IN, when this is done. The base has a spring loaded bezel with the outer contacts on the outer part of the circle. Take a couple of Popsicle sticks on opposite sides to depress the cover evenly. Look around the outer ring for copper wire contact and rub it a might with a flat point jewelers screw driver (a little bit), if it looks fonky. If not, don't bother it. On the inside in the same area there's a copper tube. Look it over. It can be rubbed on the same way with your little screw driver. If the contacts look reasonable, don't mess with'em. Don't mess with those contacts at all, if the light comes on every time you press the switch down. Good Luck.

Kettle will not turn off automatically. How do you remove the plastic cover at the rear of the kettle to access components without causing damage to the plastic?

It would be rare for such a task to be simply done by levering off something as the item would never have passed electricity testing authority approval for use.
Depending on the age the kettle, if it is more than 18 months old I would be thinking of simply replacing it. It is not worth trying to reset and clean bimetallic switches or replace faulty electronic sensors in such items in my opinion.
However if the purpose of the exercise is to satisfy your curiosity as to how it works...and you are willing to discard it..........just give it a couple of gentle taps with a hammer and screwdriver until it breaks open.
Of course you will have unplugged the kettle first...wont you ???

Power cord overheats

The thermostat is not shutting the unit down and cycling it on/off as it should. This will cause the power cord to overheat and it will catch fire. STOP using this unit and either replace it or have it repaired. More than likely cheaper to just replace it.

Kettle keeps Turning off and on.

Try descaling the kettle for about an hour with some white vinegar without heating. Hopefully the problem is caused by limescale on the thermostat/thermocouple and this will cure it. If this doesn't seem to help then probably the thermostat/thermocouple is to blame, and although easy to replace, it seems that the best way to get the right bits is an authorised tefal dealer. This link will get you the user manual for your kettle if you need it; Also it has the contacts for tefal customer service(Canada) if you need. Hope the descaling helps, it usually does the trick :)
