Question about Vacuums

Broken upright locking mechanism

This machine has a locking mechanism that locks it into the upright position. Yesterday this broke and a small piece of plastic flew off. I know I can buy replacement feet but having taken the foot off it does not look damaged, is there anywhere else I should look.

I have a Biselle 3760-1 and my son ran into the vacuum cleaner in the dark and I have the same problem in that there were small pieces of plastic on the floor and the unit will not lock in the upright position. If is is a pedal problem, where do I purchase a replacement as this should be cheaper than bringing it to a service center. My internet search found no replacement pedals.

Eureka 4870 the locking mechanism that keeps the handle portion of the show upright is broken. A little piece of plastic from the foot pedal must be gone and the foot pedal doesn't seem to want to hold the handle in place.

Would love to order the part and get instructions for repair.

Same problem with a Sharp 12txt7. The pedal does not engage or hold. How can it be fixed?

Same problem here... sounds like a bad design! Great vacuum though.

I need to know what brand the vacuum is. Various brands have different ways of locking the handle, but most incorporate a pedal that engages the handle. It sounds like you will have to replace the pedal. I hope it's not the handle portion. That becomes more complicated and expensive to replace.

What can I do to fix Panasonic vacuum MC-V7395 that will not stay locked in upright position?

Most vacuums have plastic tabs and a plastic mechanism of some sort to that will engage those tabs to make it stay upright.
I am suggesting either the tabs are worn down, or are broken off, or maybe the locking mechanism is broken.
These parts are most often not replaceable, unless you can find an identical machine with these still good on it, and swap whatever parts are necessary to fix it.
Machine is a "throwaway " model.
When it breaks, you are expected to buy a new one.
God bless your efforts.

The vacuum handle won't recline. Everything else works great, how do I fix it?

It sounds as though either the pushbutton may be broke or out of alignment. The recline works by pushing the latch pawl out of the locked position to allow the handle to recline. I have the user manual link and while it does not have that particular maintenance item the beater bar disassembly should let you see the mechanism to see if it is broken.

I took my dyson apart to clean it and it will not click into an upright position.

This is a common problem easy to fix but tricky to explain so please bare with me...You need to put the machine on it's side and if you take the handle and move it up to the point where it stops and won't go any further stopping it from being able to go straight up and lock into place. You need to look at the spot that it is touching and the spot you are looking for should be attached to the foot pedal that let the handel down. The pedal pulls a piece of plastic out of the way so that it can fall back, what has happened is the piece of plastic has moved into lock position but the handle is behind it. you need to manually pull the plastic piece that is attached to the foot pedal out of the way so you can get the handle up straight and then let the plastic piece go and it should be in the right position at this point.
This is the best that I can explain it without being there to show you so please take your time and look at it carefully and you should be able to with my instructions I have given you get it back to normal.
If this has helped you please remember to click on the yes box on your way out and good luck! thanks again for choosing Fixya!

Hi my dyson dc18 has great suction from wand but when you got to use the vac for floors little suction but wand still got suction even while vacuming floors is it suposed to stop suction from wand

My Dyson dc18 had the same symptoms. The wand worked well and the floor bar had no suction. After removing pieces & shoving my fingers into the machine (no blockage) I found the suction pipe rotates between two positions (floor and wand). It looks like a piece of plastic broke on the outside housing, so it no longer rotates positions when the wheels are raised or lowered. My son found we can move the suction by sliding a finger into the mechanism behind the wheel cover, and rotating the plastic piece clock-wise or counter clock-wise until it locks into position. It's a big pain but it works for now. I wish I could find a replacement piece online. Patty

The cleaning head of the vacume does not lock into position when I pick up the vacume, therefore when I raise the vacume th cleaning head just lays down.

The mechanism that locks the head into place is broke. Prob a plastic tab that broke off from so much use.

Dyson DC28 Air Muscle Vacuum that is stuck in upright position

This turns out to be an easy fix.

First, get some graphite lube.

Lay the vac on it's 'face'.

1) On the underside of the vacuum, there is a 1/2" wide 'groove" in the motor housing, that runs up the centerline of the machine. Follow this groove from the front of the machine towards the back. As you follow it 'up' into the machine, the groove will 'end'. Just past this point there will be a small black plastic piece with little 'ears' that is resting in another groove that continues just past the point where the first groove ended. This is the upright position lock that isn't releasing. (I've painted the 'ears' red in the attached photo)

2) Using a screwdriver, or butter knife, etc, gently lift this piece out of the groove. The vacuum head should now easily tilt down like it should.

3) Flip the vacuum over onto it's 'back' and you will be able to see the grooves, now visible on the front of the lower head. Apply the graphite to the smaller (upper) groove and try working the unit in and out of the upright position several times to work the graphite into the locking mechanism

Dyson 28 handle is stuck in the locked and upright position. Vac runs fine, just can't get the handle to release to run the vac

On the lower right side of the body of this model is a air duct piece that can get stuck and won't allow you to use the release. Take out that piece and put it back on again to see if that will unlock it.

Dyson dc07 will not lock into upright position

- Stand behind the vacuum cleaner and look at the right-hand side wheel
- Remove the AI PIPE (it has two purple buttons that you push together to lift it up and out - it looks like a Tuba)
- Lay the handle down and look for a black button that will be exposed in front of the square hole
- Stick your index finger and middle finger into the vacant AI Pipe Hole (the square hole)
- Reach over with your thumb and press the black button in front of the square hole
- Whilst pushing the black button, lift your index finger and your middle finger and move the gray plastic piece up (lift the square hole basically)
- Remove your fingers from the square hole
- Lift the handle and stand your machine back upright again
- Place the AI Pipe back into the square hole

Handle wont go to upright position

The red pedal has slipped out of position. On both ends of the red pedal you'll see metal rods (the axel of the pedal). On one side you'll see the metal rod sits into a long groove, on the other side you'll see the metal rod sits into a round hole. They both have to be in the long grooves so you have to reposition the rod that's into the round hole by pulling it out and sliding it back into the long groove above the round hole. You'll now be able to bring the handle up and lock the machine back into the upright position.

My Hoover U8143-900 does not stay "locked" in the upright position anymore?

Could be one of 3 things:

When you push it into the upright position can you manually pull the footswitch up and lock it? If so, the spring isn't set right. If the footswitch isn't moving at all, the plastic may be broke (Not so good), and if it's intermitted (As in you have to wiggle/fight with it to make it lock) it may just have crud in it. Canned air and some cleaning may fix it.
